I'm sure it will work with or without shoes. It did for me! I had what I thought were really beautiful heels, but once the ceremony was over I was cursing them out! As soon as the formalities were over, those bad boys got thrown into a corner and I never thought about them again. I tripped a couple times, not gonna lie. But you figure it out and just keep on dancing :)
Ha! Love it! I'm going through the same thing with mine. Fortunately I'm no stranger to heels, but there's a possibility I'll cave at some point and have to go barefoot. I did practice at a friend's wedding a couple weekends ago, but I got to sit for the ceremony :-) My girlfriends decided that if your feet hurt, you're not drinking enough! It...only works to a point.
HAHAH I do the same thing! I fold all my laundry in my 4inchers too, my fiance thinks I'm crazy!
I keep my wedding shoes at the apartment that I am moving out of. When I get there I slip out of whatever shoes I am wearing and slip into my gold strappy heels. I have been packing in those bad boys for weeks! They felt pretty good at my fitting yesterday. I wish I could wear them to an event to break them in but there just aren't any in the near future that they would be appropriate for.
I am going to buy a pair of rubber high-heeled platforms or wedge to wear for dancing. Close enough in height so my dress won't drag, but much more comfortable. I will also wear for our outdoor pics so my ivory silk peep toes don't get stained.
@Georgia Bee: I wanted to do the same thing, but have been having a hard time finding an affordable pair. If you find some, please let me know! :)
@Georgia Bee: exactly what I was going to suggest!
@hope1275: what is affordable? In Hawaii, where slippers are part of the "uniform", we can spend a pretty penny & not think twice.
For those looking, here are some by Roxy: http://www.roxy.com/family/index.jsp?cp=2818167&categoryId=3977991&f=Taxonomy%2FROXY%2F3977991&fbc=1&fbn=Taxonomy|Wedges
Here are some by Cobian (but you need to find a store near you, or search online for a different seller, like Amazon):
Good Luck!
I've always abided by the rule that shoes should not need to broken in. They should be comfortable the first time you wear them. However, if you aren't used to wearing 4" heels, you will need to train your feet, ankles and calves so you can walk gracefully in them. Wear them as often as you can.
awesome plan Redherring! Great idea :)
Anyhow...you can also remember to walk across the driveway gently. That lightly scuffs them but not so much (don't do it alot) and it keeps them from being too slick.
@hope1275: I got these sandals from Victoria's Secret for my reception flip flops. They're inexpensive and 3.5" heels...
@sboston06: Those are awesome! Have yours arrived yet? Are they comfortable?
@redherring: Yes, I ordered them about a year ago. They are pretty comfortable from what I can tell. I bought two pairs and I'm keeping the white pair for the wedding but I wear the others everywhere else. My foot does slide forward a bit which causes some irritation between the toes, but if you're used to thong flip flops, it's not bad at all.

Look, I have to break in these shoes somehow! Going up and down the stairs to the basement and walking across the impressively irregular cement floor seems like an awesome strategy. And I learned that I need to do more trail running to build up the ankle strength needed to walk across grass :) I'm just hoping that the women doing my alterations (first fitting is tomorrow!) can suggest a strategy that will allow my dress to work with both the 4-inch heels and my bare feet, when I admit defeat and take the heels off.
