They use a grinder to prep your nails for the acrylics, which makes them thinner. My nails are always a lot weaker after acrylics or gel polish. I don’t know if it’s the materials themselves, or the acetone used to remove them, but putting stuff on my nails always seems to do bad things to them.

Tinkerdust: I got a gel mani for my wedding and loved it. I didn’t have it filled in as it grew out. So eventually they kinda peel off and definitely leave the nail underneath looking haggard. But after everything grows out no harm done. It’s not something I would do all the time, but definitely for a special event when I want the mani to hold up for at least a week. You’re nails will grow underneath. so you get “nail roots” where it just your natural nail growing in at the bottom. You can then continue to have them filled, let them grow out, have them removed, or pick at the yourself until they’re gone.

If you are going to have artificial nails, go with Bio-Gel. It is much lighter, lasts longer and isn’t as harmful for her nails.

Tinkerdust: I have horrible nails as well, I don’t bite them or anything but I can barely grow them past the nail bed before they break. I go through periods of getting acrylics and LOVE them. Your nail will actually grow really well underneath them as the acrylic/gel protects them, but once you take them off they also take half the layers of your nails off! The aftermath is pretty devestating on your natural nails but once the damaged part grows out they go back to normal!

I’m not sure whether i’ll get them done for our wedding, i’ll probably just get shellac done and keep them shorter (when natural I keep them short, when acrylic/gel I have them quite long! as you can see.. 🙂 the best part of having acrylic/gels is they always look perfect without you having to do anything to them!

Tinkerdust: I’ve always had thin, brittle nails that break easily as well. My former roommate recommended nail life ( u can buy at sallys or on amazon) and it did amazing things on my nails! They grow and are much stronger… I Always get compliments and am asked if my nails are real. i would def revommend that u look into it! I use it during the week and let my nails breathe on the weekend 🙂 I plan on getting acrylic nails for the wedding bc w my luck I would end up chipping my nails and be sol for pics haha

I have thin, brittle nails, have my entire life. Even though I had my nails sanded for acrylic nails, they were not any more thin or brittle than they usually are upon removal. Your nails will continue to grow with your acrylic nails, that’s why people need to get them redone, the nails grow out. I’ve used acetone on my nails for years with no adverse side effects.

It was NBD for me. I’d suggest going acrylic or gel depending on what you like better. I prefer acrylic.

I have never had any damage to my nails from using acrylic. They always go back to normal a few months after I have them removed.

my nails have always been weak and brittle since i was a child. I do acrylics due to feeling they are close to feeling like natural/hard nails. I do go times without them to let my regular nails breathe, then get them again. Ive been doing them for almost 8 years, no harm seen.

Got them done today <3

I have thin, flimsy nails that bend and peel and break. It’s awful. I have gotten acrylics done a few times for weddings/prom and they ruined my nails. Of course they grow back, but I wouldn’t recommend them. I usually just paint my nails with a few layers of high quality polish and that keeps them strong enough to not break and keeps me from biting them
