@AlbertaBride: Hmm. I'm curious about this. I have a 1.5mm band too, but it's 14k white gold.
More importantly...why aren't you posting a picture with your post? :)
gold in any karat will wear out, especially that thin, I do believe. however, I actually like that--you can even get a new one in 40, 50 years! I'd like my relationship to outlast my ring. wouldn't that be something? :}
@patchy: Aww. That's a sweet way of looking at it. I never thought of it that way. But, I can see the day that my ring finally does give out, if it does, I'll probably be VERY upset.
The ring will be custom made so there are no pictures to post :) I would prefer a ring that will last so...still undecided. But thanks for your responses!!
I wondered the same thing about mine, as I have the same thing. I am not terribly concerned about it though.
After 25 years of marriage, my Mom noticed her E-ring band was wearing thin around the bottom (where your palm is) from years of wear. She just brought it in to the jeweler who rebuilt it by adding gold back to the band. Easy peasy.
Yes if they wear thin they can be rebuilt, all rings that are 1.5mm will wear, but actually gold will wear faster when paired with a different gold, so if you have an 18k rose gold ring and you wear it with a 14k ring it will wear out your engagement ring very very fast.
You should get 18k Rose gold to match it will be less likely to wear out. If you want it to last longer you need to buy a thicker ring.
I don't plan on wearing my egagement ring regularly - probably every once and a while and likely on the other hand. Would that mean I'm out of harm's way?
@AlbertaBride: oh Im not sure, I wear mine all the time and was told to ensure I had the same gold. Even then it will probably take years and year to wear down. Its not hard to get them built back up anyway.

My engagement ring is 18k rose gold with a 1.5 mm band. I would love the band to match but am worried it will wear and break with age. Am I right to worry?
I have thought of going to 14k but i want the tone to match...help?
