I don’t know what the dimensions of your crate is currently, but your dog should be able to fully lie down, as well as be able to stand up and turn around in his crate.

@isabelle_86:  Yes, absolutely get a bigger crate. Both dogs need ample space to move around, especially if they are going to be in there for the majority of the day.

We have two crates for our two pomeranians. Once is large enough to fit myself inside (for 100+ pound dogs) and this is what they “live” in when we are at work. We have a smaller crate for the car which is large enough for them to sit/stand/lay down in but isn’t for long term and there really isn’t enough room for much else.

And you want to put both of them in the same crate? Definitely get a bigger one.

I wouldn’t advise putting them in the same crate until you can be absolutely 100% certain of how they’ll get along. Especially if you plan on leaving them alone in a crate. Once they are confined in a crate together there is no safe space for them to retreat to if they want to be alone.

Crate them separately for a while (several months if possible) until any dominance/territory issues are fully resolved. Putting unfamiliar dogs in a crate together when it is already the territory of another dog is a disaster (and expensive vet bill) waiting to happen.
