I am 23 years old (today) and have been with my Fiance almost 5 years, and known him for 7. We have lived together 4.5 years, Bought our first house together 3 years ago and have been engaged about the same length of time.
About 2 months ago I snapped, and went, lets just get this whole wedding business over with! I thought we would never actually get married due to the costs and effort involved (We both have good jobs BTW). So in three months I have planned the following;
Married at the local theatre (A beautiful 150 year old building) with only 10 people in attendace including the Bridesmaid or Best Man & Maid/Matron of Honor. no bouquets or first dances, a BLACK cocktail dress, then go to my mothers house for a cocktail reception with approx 80 people (No gifts or tacky things like that). No honeymoon, due to not being able to take time off work, so just a single night in a very fancy villa.
All up this is costing us about $5000, including the rings, and my mum is paying for the reception (against my will!) So the question is; Will I regret throwing away the chance for a big white wedding and putting this all together in a matter of months?

I personally think it sounds lovely, but I’m not a ‘big white wedding’ enthusiast. Are you? Are you one of those people that pictured your wedding as a little girl? If you were, then you might. If not, I think it’ll be perfect :).

@hatmanandbobbin: I agree 100%
Personally, your 10/80 person wedding sounds amazing. If you have the slightest doubt, perhaps wait. You definitely won’t second guess how much money you can put into your future instead of wedding day. As for the honeymoon, you can always do one further down the line if you change your mind.

@hatmanandbobbin: same here about the big weddings. I never planned my wedding as a little girl. I was too much of a tomboy.
My first wedding (I paid for) was a larger, “typical” wedding. I didn’t regret it b/c I was careful with my decisions.
However, the second time around and DH’s first, we wanted something that was completely “us” and fun. It cost 1/2 the price of the first….even though it was a Destination Wedding and it included our international flights. And I got way more compliments about everything….the dress, the food, the reception, the photographer. I just found out someone is “copying” our DIY invites b/c they loved them so much. I look at our photos and realize everything was perfectly “us”.
We have yet to have our “honeymoon” since Darling Husband had work training 2 days after the wedding. But we travel a lot so I feel like every place we go is technically our honeymoon!
By The Way your wedding sounds fun!

Thanks everyone! Im so excited to be getting married, But I get so many odd looks when I tell people about the wedding and just wonder if ill be missing out. You gals have helped put my mind at ease… and I think im just really opposed to spending thousands on a dress I could never wear again etc. As long as we are married, I’ll be happy 🙂
