So, this was all decided months ago, but now my FILs keep asking us about it. The wedding is less than 3 months away. I’m sorry, this may be a little ranty.
Essentially, our bridal party is as follows: on my side – my brother and best girlfriend, on SO’s side will be his brother and his sister. The girls are wearing the dresses below. Our colors are black, ivory, and gold.
My SO will be wearing a classic black slim tux, white shirt, bowtie. It’s custom ordered from a suit, so it’s cut the same way. We asked our brothers months and months ago to just wear black, two button suits. They’ll wear white shirts, and matching bowties that we’ll pick out.
I think my father will be wearing a black tux to walk me down the aisle. My in laws now, after months of knowing this, think it’s ridiculous for our brothers to wear black suits vs. tuxedos. Neither one of our brothers will ever need tuxedos, and I highly doubt anyone will even notice that SO is in a tux and they’re in suits. Just seems like a really insignificant detail to me.
Any thoughts out there? I don’t need everyone to be PERFECTLY matching or anything. Does anyone think it’ll look toooo mismatched, though?

I think what you have planned sounds great!
Stick to your guns & tell them its too late to change anything.

I think it will look completely fine, they are all black so they will match in that sense. Most people will probably not even notice that one is a suit and one is a tux. I agree that it is ridiculous to ask people to buy a tux for a one time event.

I think what you’ve planned is just fine!

When I was at a bridal show I asked a man there with Moores or some place what the difference is between a suit and a tux.
He said the REAL difference is that tux’s do not have real buttons or belt loops. So you need to buy those pin buttons and cufflinks and you need suspenders to keep your pants up.
I wouldn’t worry. Most people will probably not even notice.

i actually think it’s great that the groom stands out a bit. they will look cohesive as they are wearing black suits, white shirts and matching bowties. when your in laws mention this, i’d just say that it’s been decided and it’s going to look great! cause it will!

@Heartly: I think as long as the color flow looks fine, it won’t make a difference whether or not all the guys are wearing tuxes or not! 🙂
