Ack, that sucks!! You've got a while but this looks to be an epic mess.  I'm so sorry!!  Is there any way you can cancel & book somewhere else?  :(   Hopefully it will be better by then

i think you'll be fine, the oil spill is pretty far away from the bahamas, and hopefully by then they'll have it under control and cleaned up.

ETA - an article just popped up on my google news, it said the chance of it reaching the bahamas is remote.

Wow. I think the whole Bahamian econony is based around tourism. This could devastate them for months if not longer. So sad. :(

The bahamas are far away - and the Gulf of Mexico currents won't take the oil in that direction. Most likely, it will get picked up by longshore currents and hug the US coastline (*nerd alert* I studied oceanography for 8 years).

I don't think anybody knows yet.  I tried to look at the NOAA computer modeling, but they're not predicting that far out.  I think it's going to be a watch and wait situation at this point.

I am located in the panhandle of Florida.  It is expected to hit the west side of the panhandle beaches this weekend.  From there, it will go down the coast of Florida over the next few weeks with the southern point being around Tampa.

Bahamas should be fine.  I wouldnt' cancel your trip.

My FI's mom is a marine biologist (retired) and she said it will take a good while for it to move.  I think the Bahamas will be fine.  I just wish the same for our gulf beaches.  (((((Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas animals, environment & beaches)))))

I am so upset about this oil spill .. or rather, oil flow. PSA to all voters - enough with the drill baby drill mindset :-(

Such a sad situation.  Since there seem to be a lot of people here who've researched this, anyone know if it's supposed to hit Ft Lauderdale?  That's where my FIs family lives, and I'd love to know if they're going to be affected...

ChiCat - Ft. Lauderdale is on the East coast of Florida which will not be directly impacted by the oil.  The spill was in the gulf and will hit the west coast of Florida specifically the panhandle area.

@caszos - I know it's on the east coast, and obviously it's not in the direct line of the flow, but because it's so far south, I didn't know if the currents followed the coastline and would carry oil around the tip of Florida.  Thanks!

As of right now they aren't even expecting it to go all the way down very bottom of Florida.
