@Jess1483:  I don’t really enjoy staying in a house by myself, but I don’t mind it. FH works late, so I’m usually home alone most of the day anyway, so being alone doesn’t bother me so much. I also got used to living alone. I do have two dogs, so maybe that’s why I feel more safe, but I have never really minded being alone before I got my dogs.

DH works away quite often.  I actually feel safer in the house than I did when we were renting an apartment.  There’s way less noise.  Someone also entered my apartment illegally one day.  I know who has keys to my house.

@Jess1483:  I didn’t have a huge issue with it until one day someone just walked in when I wasn’t fully dressed.  I think they were there to steal stuff, they were using renos as an excuse.

I’ve never been one to like staying alone without my SO

More so if it is a house (which feels so much bigger cavernous) than an apartment or hotel room.

Plus, never have a slept well when my SO is away… again… it is a space thing… BIG EMPTY BED

I did find a way tho to put my mind at ease…

I got myself a big old body pillow for my bed so I have something significant to cuddle (in so much as Mr TTR & I don’t have any pets to curl up with)

    AND most importantly:

I installed a home security alarm.  That has done wonders for me.

Worth every penny that peace of mind.

    Something to think about.

I’ve lived alone for 5 years, so I’m used to it now and it doesn’t bother me. I guess I do feel “safer” with FI here but I’m really fine alone too. I’ve actually gotten so used to living alone that when I stay with other people it sometimes scares me because I’m not used to the sounds of other people walking around, using the batroom, etc at all hours. When friends stay with me it’s the same way, I feel like have to remind myself they’re staying with me before I fall asleep so I don’t freak out if they get up and make noise. Very early on in our relationship FI put his arm around me in his sleep and it woke me up, I freaked out still half asleep starting hitting him! Thankfully I was so weak in my half asleep state he didn’t even notice!

I’ll stay home alone, but I definitely do not prefer to stay alone. I usually camp in the living room (a pleasant excuse because I love sleeping on the floor- weird, right?) and my dog sleeps nearby. I’d hate it a lot more without my dog, even though I know he’s way too small to possibly protect me; it’s just comforting to not be completely alone.

@Jess1483:  I understand. FH hasn’t been gone overnight that much since we’ve been living together.

My husband is deployed and I’m 1,200 miles away from my family. I have to stay home alone at night.

@Jess1483:  I’m actually planning on getting an alarm, there’s just so much to get done.  It would knock a few $100 off our insurance every year, so there’s that to consider too.  Some you can take with you.  Our house is already wired for it.
