I'm 33 years old and have had a child. I think I still look pretty good. But I fear time is marching on and I only have a couple more years before I turn into that "delusional woman who thinks she can still wear a bikini". I'm going to rock one this summer!
I still have some trouble spots that probably aren't going to be perfect by my honeymoon. But I love bikinis and getting tan all over (and showing off the tattoos) so I'm wearing one no matter what.
I am absolutely wearing a bikini!!! I get a little nervous about certain areas...but I've been working hard to get toned up and am proud of it :) I know you've been working hard too...so I say, go for it!!!
There are really pretty one-pieces though if you'd rather that option!
When the body started going south, I wore a tankini. It was the best of both worlds for me. I didn't have to wear a 1 piece but the top covered my trouble area. I highly doubt I will be in a bathing suit this year but maybe I will get lucky and lose a good amount of this baby weight before summer is up.
I work at a day-camp during the summer and spend about a day a week in my bathing suit (and we go to the water park about 3 times a summer). I rock the heck out of my (sporty) bikini (obviously it is a high coverage bikini as I am working with kids). I'm tiny but not toned and my belly sticks out a little sometimes, but who cares!
I think as long as you pick out the corect bikini/bathing suit for your body type and wear it with confidence, then no one will notice any of your "trouble areas" :)
I'm excited to wear one on my honeymoon...assuming I get my butt in gear and get into shape! But honestly, I'll wear one either way.
i rock the bikini. i don't exactly have "trouble" areas though - my natural build includes larger thighs and a pretty round booty, but no matter how much i work out, that's not going to change.
haha the thought of bathing suits gives me a heart attack, but when it comes down to it, I usually care more about getting color than I do about what some schmucks at the pool or beach think!
@ eeniebeans - Rock on! and BTW, you're still plenty young to wear a bikini. You have several years to go! You're only 3 yrs older than me! I haven't had any kids, but I definately have my trouble areas. And I'm vertically challenged with short legs that tend to be..stocky? Definately not my dream bikini body.
@ hotchild - I like getting tan all over as well, except that over the past few years I've gotten a lot more cautious about the sun. I used to tan constantly years ago and NEVER ever wore sunscreen. It's just been in the past 3 years that I've actually started using it. I wish I could go back in time and slap myself.
@okqueenbee: It's my one vice. I don't smoke or do drugs, I drink lots of water, I work out, I eat healthy. But I will not give up my sun worshipping ;o)
Well to all of you who are confident in wearing one, that's awesome! I have been working out, but not nearly as "hard" as I used to and there's still a lot of room for improvement. I know my hubby loves me, but I would still feel self-conscious being at a public swimming area or whatever with tiny perfect chicks walking around half-naked in front of him :/
@okqueenbee: I'm 22 and have always been a religious sunscreen wearer. (I grew up in Tucson AZ and the moved to the beach in LA in middle school). At 18 years old I have already had a biopsy done to test for skin cancer :(
i havent chosen yet. mostly because i HAVE to buy separates to fit my body type (my bust is freakishly larger than the rest of me) so its either a bikini (horror upon horrors!) or a tankini - which i am leaning towards :)
Bikini. The older I get (34), the less I care what other people think. As long as I think I look ok, I'm going to go for it.
@ babyboo - Wow.. well, I'm glad you're OK and that you have always worn sunscreen! See that totally scares me. I actually have a couple of moles on me that I am going to show the dr. when I go in May, and it makes me really nervous to think about it.
I've never tried a tankini...maybe I should do that..
I have worn a one-piece before but (no offense to all you one-piece lovers out there), I always felt like an old lady in it.
@babyboo that scares me so much!!! I wear sunscreen on my face/neck/chest every day...and my mother who was a sun worshipper back in the 70's and 80's always tells me to pile it on my hands as well since they show age even if the rest of you still looks great! I'm glad you are okay...that is so scary!
I'm 23 (just turned last week!) and I go tanning a few times a week :( I wish I could just be naturally a little more tanned but natrually I'm cremey and just feel more toned and better about myself with a litle tan :X plus it feels so good...
@okqueenbee: J. Crew has some REALLY cute tankinis in their final sale section right now.
@sulli: my mom was also a worshipper of the sun in the 70s (she grew up by the beach, too). She told me her and her friends would go down to the beach, rub baby oil over themselves, and tan all day!
My torso is too long for one-pieces so I have to. I suppose I could get a tankini - I was so excited when those started coming out. But I am not so into shopping and will probably just end up with the bikinis I already have - which I'm pretty sure I bought before they invented tankinis. :P
But serious, me and my body issues have to learn to get along, because I am not going to let some anxiety stop me from going swimming when it's 100 degrees out.
@ hotchild - Thanks! I just went on their website to look and when I clicked on "swim" I saw that they do have some cute suits, but I'm at work and I feel weird looking at girls in bathing suits online LOL. I'll visit it later when I get home ;)
If it's just me and my husband, maybe at the hottubs or something, that's it!
Then again, now that we're married, perhaps suits will be optional at the hottubs...
I voted for other because I'm not wearing a bikini, but not because of how I look. I just prefer how one-pieces look on me :)
I own a few bikinis, and I feel like they look weird on me for some reason. But I LOVE all my cute vintagey one-pieces. Maybe it's because they're just all more my style?
Even though I am a very petite woman under 5ft tall under 100lbs ...I am not a bikini person.... I have a child and while i came out of my pregnancy amazingly good.. no stretch marks or weight leftover... I do not feel comfortable exposed in a bikini expecially while playing with my kid or swimming or any of that ... so i have alot of really cute tankini's some show more than others ... I also have a few that do have halter bikini tops and cute little skirted bottoms or board short bottoms... and i also have some one pieces that are pretty much cut away in the back and on the sides that i just feel more comfortable in
I have some trouble zones but still wear a bikini - I hate tan lines as it is!
Honestly, I think it's much worse when really big guys wear smaller swimsuits... maybe because women worry about how they look more? FBIL always shows a lot of crack. Maybe TMI, but I mean a good two inches! Ugh!
i've always had trouble areas and have never felt 100% comfortable in a bikini but i forget about all that stuff as soon as i realize it doesn't matter because no one is really thinking about how we look! And who cares if they do, anyway?
Yep, yep, yep!
I love wearing bikinis - I actually feel better the less I wear (I love a Brazilian bottom, but a thong is too bare for me).
I went all modest around age 18, so I don't wear bikinis anymore. I started preferring bikinis to one-pieces at twelve and wore the skimpiest clothes possible all throughout my teens. Then around eighteen, I just started feeling really WEIRD in bikinis. It became too apparent to me that it was the next closest thing to wearing my underwear in public! I haven't worn a bikini since. I don't tan and rarely get in the water, but when I do I wear a pretty one-piece with cute, appropriate shorts over it these days (my upper thighs and butt have always been what I'm most sensitive about!). I have gained a little weight since transferring colleges, which probably doesn't help, but I'm still a size 4/6, which I don't think is that big. FI thinks I'm nuts and wishes I'd wear bikinis but, eh. I'm not comfortable in them anymore.
Nope, I will be pretty pregnant by then so I will be wearing a maternity suit. Although I guess I could wear one in the backyard since nobody will see me swimming in our own pool !
Looks like I'm the odd girl out. I haven't worn a bikini since middle school...I HATE them! Instead, I wear a tankini top and I'll either wear boy shorts on the bottom or even board shorts. I hate feeling so exposed and avoid wearing a suit at all if possible!
Naw Lillindy, you're not the odd one out! I wear almost the same thing as you (one piece+shorts), I just started doing it a bit later (end of high school). And I feel like everyone becomes too easily acquainted with 'the girls' even in that get-up.
It's so weird because I'm not a prude AT ALL, I just started dressing more modestly when I hit 18 and part of that included nixing the bikinis! I hate feeling exposed too. But you should see the skimpy things I wore before then...
@veganglam: I know what you mean, I used to rock all kinds of skimpy stuff. But, one day it just hit me that wearing a bikini is like parading around in a bra and panties, so it just started weirding me out. I have to say, though, finding boy shorts or even sometimes board shorts that are cute can be really hard!
I'm very happy and comfortable with my body at most sizes. However, in the year or two prior to meeting my FI I gained about 15 pounds. Then once we started dating and going out all the time I packed on another 10 pounds or so. Luckily I've shed about 15 of them and hopefully another 5 (maybe, maybe not) before the wedding. For me, I no longer like how I look in my bikinis so I go the tankini route now and love them! If I manage to get back into my old bikini's I'd rock them but until then I'll rock the tankini. To all bee's... be happy with who you are and what you look like because you only live once so rock it!
Everywhere is a *trouble area* for me (love motherhood, hate the stretch marks), but I wear one anyway -- I just don`t go to public beaches.

I've been thinking about it, and honestly I don't know. I wore a bikini a couple years ago at the height of my fitness craze or whatever, but since meeting hubby things have, uh.. gotten a little jiggly.. or jigglIER I should say :P
I don't live in an apartment anymore, so my access to a swimming pool is limited, and there are not many lakes around here that are legal to swim in so really, wearing a bathing suit at all this summer might not happen unless we travel a little distance or I decided to lay out and get some sun in the backyard.
Anyways, just curious.. bikini for you bees? One-piece? Not at all?
