Very traditional and fussy IMO. It's obviously very pretty, but definitely not something I would want.
looks like a lot of fondant. Can you imagine the time and planning that went into this? The center of the bottom layer probably took hours to put together and I'm sure they were sweating it to the very end. While fondant is really hard to work with, take a look in the top image of the original post - look at the handcarved wood garland over the entryway in the photo - I think it was done by wood carver Grinling Gibbons.
I watched on TLC last night that the grooms cake was Willliams recipe and he taste tested several time. Think he will be doing the dishes too?
All I can think when I see it is "It's still a fruit cake." Beautiful, but eww.
It's pretty in the first picture. But from the top/side I don't like it. The bottom 3 tiers are weird looking. But I'd still eat it :)
I would probably be in line for the groom's cake though. Chocolate is my fave!
@PinkMagnolia: that is what I was wondering.... Fondant + fruitcake....mmmm *throws up a little in mouth*
I love the view head on, but the bird's eye view makes the bottom tier look funny. Still a gorgeous cake!
Wow, that is one huge wedding cake. Anyone want to guess how much it would cost to make that cake? $5k? I have no idea how expensive cakes can get. How many people does it feed?
Am I the only one that thinks the bottom tier looks like testicles sticking out? Beautiful cake from the side view though!
I usually dont like cakes with lots of detail but this is so well done and the because the details are the same color as the cake it just works!
That cake must have cost ALOT!
I heard somewhere that the flowers on the cake match the flowers in her bouquet. It's beautiful.
Could it be that we're misunderstanding fruit cake here? That perhaps what they mean is a cake with fruit falvorings and not the unfortunate Yuletide dessert known to Americans?
@teaadntoast: Yeah I hear fruit cake in England is very yummy but the fruitcake that us American's think of is nothing compared to theirs.
Uh, I just read that the cost for cake was... $78,000? How did those cakes cost that much money?
I want this cake at my wedding. Only in my dreams... I'm sure it was delicious!
