I read on another wedding site about someone using a few wine bottles (empty and the label taken off) and writing on the "6 months" "1 year" "5 years."  Do you think this is a good idea or do you have any other good ideas? I don't want the traditional guest book so I've been trying to think of creative ideas to use instead!

I looked at doing wine bottles for my guest book too. I think it is a really neat idea because then you can display them. I am confused by the 6 months, 1 yr, 5 yr though....? The ones I saw just had all the signatures on them.

Sorry..I probably could have explained that better.  Okay, say you have 4 wine bottles.  You take off the labels of the 4 bottles and put on another label that says "6 months" "1 year" "5 years" "10 years."  A person can then write a note and put it in one of the four bottles and then you open the first bottle on the 6th month anniversary all the way up to the 10th anniversary.  That way they can write something that they know you won't read for 5 years, or however long.  Does that make more sense?

@akday: Okay i get it! the only problem I see is everyone putting their notes in the same bottle... maybe if you put a sign asking to please try to distribute them evenly or something. other than that I think it is a really cute and different idea!

We're are going to be using wine bottles as our guest book - but we'll just have two double magnums (3L bottles), one white and one red, and we're going to have people just choose which one they want to sign. Then we'll share them with friends and family on our 10th anniversary!

P.S. If anyone else likes the wine as a guestbook idea you may want to check out Oeno Writers by Oenophilia to use for signing - we bought a set to make sure they work and they're great.

I would get a magnum instead so that all of the signatures could fit on one.  I think it's a great idea!
