Most of my guest are not too big on hard licor, so we are sticking to wine during dinner and the usual champagne, plus a couple bottles of scotch for the drinkers<font face=”Arial” size=”3″><span class=”Apple-style-span” style=”font-size: 13px; white-space: pre”>.</font>
But I want to serve something diferente forcocktail hour. Any sugestions on tasty wine or champagne cocktails? Feel free to add any exotic fruit juice.
Please help me out on this!

The two obvious drinks that spring to mind are Kir Royals and Sangria. Sangria seems wrong to me as a distinctively ‘cocktail hour’ drink though. I love it, but wine plus juice plus fruit plus soda water spells long hot summer evening of drinking, not pre-dinner drinks. Wine is and should be just fine by itself for your cocktail hour. (If you want something a bit different, look into rose. There are some really fabulous dry, crisp roses being produced at the moment.) However kir royals are a lovely way of sprucing up a glass of sparkling wine. All you need is the sparkling wine and a bottle of cassis/framboise. The proportion is, I believe, 1/3 frambiose and 2/3 champagne and the result is fruity and refreshing while not appearing infantile. I’m thinking about including it as an option for our cocktail hour, alongside wines, beers and maybe mixed drinks.

Thank you so much! I had consider sangria, but I don´t want anyone using their fingers to get the fruit out of their glasses!
