I can't possibly be the only winter 2012 bride around... where are you, lovely ladies? And do you receive comments on your date or time of year?
I don't think it's that far away really -- just over a year and a half! We haven't booked anything just yet, but we're narrowed down the venue choices to three.
Our colors are evergreen and cream, probably with dark brown and gold accents. The atmosphere we're aiming for is cozy and romantic, but keeping everything simple and elegant.
Gaaaaah I love that combo so much. You and Miss Knitting are giving me serious wedding envy.
Not a winter bride but just wanted to tell you that I love your colors!!
I am a winter 2012 bride as well! We are getting married in on February 11, 2012. It feels like it is so far away, but really its only about a year and a half away. Our colors are plum and champagne with some hints of pale pink mixed it.
Most of my family is fine with the idea of a wedding in the middle of winter. However, my gram is not very happy about it. She is so afraid that it will snow and she will have to drive in it. I understand her hesitation, but we do have reasons for picking winter. One is that it will be so pretty with snow on the ground! We are thinking of having a morning ceremony (around 11) and having a lunch reception so people can leave before dark.
I started looking at different things for the wedding but nothing is booked yet. I bought a few things such a my garter and the flowers for bouquets. We are using silk flowers (cheaper and last longer) and I found the perfect flowers already made into bouquets at Michaels. They were 50% off!!! I got enough flowers for me and my whole wedding party as well as mothers/grandmothers for under $60! They are pale pink and champagne roses. I am going to add some plum color flowers as well.
Wow. This post turned out being really long... I'm just so excited, I guess.
Did you pick a date for your wedding yet? What comments have you gotten about a winter wedding?
@Amaryllis: I love following Miss Knitting's posts! So much inspiration.
@mannellal: Aw thank you! I'm having a hard time finding any pictures of weddings with our colors... I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing!
@kms31690: Lovelovelove your colors! I always wanted a winter wedding, and since the majority of our guests are local (within an hour's drive or less), we figure they're hardy enough to get to the wedding barring a major blizzard.
Our preferred date is 1-21-12, but since we haven't booked the venue just yet, technically that could change. Most people have been polite enough to just smile and say "that sounds nice" rather than commenting on the time of year... but of course, a few have asked us why winter? What about travel? What if it snows? Won't we be cold?
*Sigh* Everyone's a critic, y'know? How goes your planning so far? Any fun winter-specific ideas?
I'm a winter 2012 bride! We're thinking January since it's the month of our anniversary. I'd rather be chilly than sweating in a huge dress in the middle of summer, too! We haven't really decided on colors, though.
@BostonBaby- I love the idea of evergreen!
@kms31690: we're going the silk flower route, too! It's just SO much more cost-effective to our budget. Plus, the quality of silk flowers has really come a long way!
@BostonBaby - Planning is going well. I have so many ideas. I had foot surgery last month and I'm still not allowed to walk so I've been obsessing over wedding ideas. lol. I sit and look at stuff for hours. Sometimes I think I'm crazy, but then I remind myself that its really only a year and a half away. Did you start trying on dresses yet? I've been engaged since August 2009 and I've restrained myself from trying on any dresses, but I don't know how much longer I can wait!
@sapphirelady15 - I totally agree with you! It would be sooo hot in the middle of summer. I'm the MOH in my best friend's wedding next month. Her dress is so heavy and I have to bustle it... Its going to be so hot. I was on the fence about having silk flowers or not but then I started checking prices and it changed my mind. We are getting married right before Valentine's Day and I want roses. Silk ones were so much cheaper. I don't think they look fake and they are perfect for me. Here is a picture of one of the bridesmaids bouquets. I am going to some plum colored flowers as well.

I haven't tried on dresses yet. I think I'll start maybe in August or September, depending on when I can get my ladies together. I want to shop with just my mother the first time around, then bring some family in later.
I love reading everyone's thoughts on the weather, and how much of a factor it was in the decision. Meaning, it looks like none of us enjoy trying to get all dolled up in the sweltering heat! I'd rather have rosy cheeks from the chilly air than from a sunburn.
What kinds of menus are you ladies preparing? Anything seasonal, or are you just doing favorite foods?
I've been driving FI nuts with wedding ideas- we've been engaged since March 09'- (we're waiting until I after I graduate late next year). I've been following Ms.Knitting's posts with growing interest- I loved her candles post!
@BostonBaby: I'd really love to do favorite seasonal foods, so a combo of both! I love hearty cold- weather fare- to me it says, "party" more than summer food. That's probably because around the winter months, there are a lot of holidays/celebrations that come with yummy food- hellooooo, Thanksgiving and Christmas treats! :D
I'm not sure what foods I want exactly. We are planning on having a lunch reception and having hot turkey sandwiches or hot beef sandwiches with some type of potato and veggie. Its a nice hot meal on a cold winter day. Plus you can't go wrong with a hot turkey sandwich. yummy!
@sapphirelady15 - FI and I are waiting too because of school. He graduates in February and I will graduate in December 2011. I will graduate with about 2 months until the wedding. Its like I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel - only 2 more semesters of classes and 1 semester of student teaching! woo!
Yay!!! January 7 2012 here! I'm so psyched about this new board. The snow does make me a little anxious, especially since everybody is going to be an out-of-towner, but we're getting awesome rates on everything since it's off-season, and my dress weighs 40 lbs (no sh!+), so I'm pretty happy about our choice! Our colors are navy, lavender, ice blue, ivory, and gold.
@BostonBaby: Im getting married in Dec. 2014. but i love replying to peoples negative comments about winter weddings, i find that usually when they ask a smart ass comment, and i actually reply they are shocked and have nothing to say :)
Why Winter? cause its my favorite season, and thats when we got engaged
What about travel? cause travel is awesome any other time of the year? would you rather travel in plus 35 celcius weather, i think not
What if it snows? i hope so, snows so pretty
Its cold in December! I wasnt aware i was getting married outside? I was leaning towards getting married in a church then going to a warm hall afterwards, but mabey ill take you up on the outside idea.
I find that usually when you have an answer, they are at a loss of words on what to say next :)
@BostonBaby: Im hoping to do a christmas meal. Dec. 20th is so close to christmas that i think it will be perfect :)
@veganglam: I love off-season rates, especially when it gives me room for negotiation. And wow, your dress -- do you have pictures?
@mrschristmas: I love your replies to the winter weather comments. I'll probably get some flak for admitting this, but... our ceremony will probably be outside, weather permitting.
We want a somewhat seasonal meal, with more emphasis on rich flavors and some winter favorites (chocolate, cinnamon, cocoa).
@veganglam - I love the off season rates too. Do you have any pictures of your dress?
@BostonBaby - I was thinking of doing a station for cocoa or something. FI loves hot cocoa so we have to incorporate it somehow.
Today's summer heat and humidity leaves me dreaming of winter... a snowball fight would be fantastic right about now!
Its officially 93 degrees outside. Winter sounds sooo nice right now. How about we just skip to winter 2012 :)
*waves* Well well, what do we have here? 2012 boards! I feel like this is Weddingbee validation that our dates aren't really all that far away, at least in terms of wedding planning.
I'm happy to report that we have a venue (and therefore food, drinks, and lodging), and that I'm in the midst of ceremony musician, DJ, and maybe even photographer. I can't believe how quickly it all goes!
How is everyone doing these days?
Woo! We have month boards! Yay! I can't believe how fast it is going.
I don't have anything. I am totally slacking. I keep saying that I am going to make appointments to look at venues, but we never do. My goal is to have a venue by the end of October.
We booked our ceremony location today for February 4, 2012! Its my home church so its not such a big deal. Its very exciting!
Whoah ok so, update! We have: ceremony/reception venue (and all food and beverages, timing, general layout, etc.), ceremony and reception music, my gown and veil, and possibly a photog in the next 2 weeks (time for meetings). Yowza!
How is everyone coming along? I look forward to hearing about how things go!
We're just setting things up with the officiant, next, the reception venue, and I just ordered a dress online that I've been looking at for over a year- I'll let you know how it turns out!!
I found my dress. I am going back to the store on Saturday to order it :) I loveeee it. Its Maggie Sottero's McCall. http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?style=A3284CS
We also have an appointment with a possible reception venue on the 12th.
We've been engaged so long, its crazy that its finally time to plan!
I know! Finally, right? :)
Your dress is beautiful- looks perfect for a winter wedding.
@sapphirelady15: Thank you! I saw that you said you got your dress. Do you have pictures?
I'm still not sure what to do about a shrug- it's gets COLD in MO during January. I've been scouring Etsy. :)
@sapphirelady15: Your dress is so pretty! Its so romantic.
I'm not sure about a shrug either. It gets pretty cold in PA too. I tried on some, but so far I haven't found one that I like. I've seen pictures of brides just wearing a white peacoat and I think its adorable. I might just do that. I figure I can wear the peacoat again anyway.
Thank you! :D
A peacoat would be so cute! I've already seen white and ivory ones at Target, and I'm pretty sure Old Navy carries them, too.
I created a new category for the "somethings" for winter brides: "something warm"! Mine will be my grandmother's beautiful mink stole -- we even brought it with us when I tried on gowns, to make sure it would match!
I'm currently debating the footwear problem: I'll have pretty shoes for the wedding itself, but our pictures will (hopefully) be outside. White boots? Green or brown (wedding colors)? Furry or sleek? Wearable post-wedding? Arrgghhh...
Ooh, that will be very wintery- I love the "something warm" idea! :D
I googled "winter wedding boots", but a lot of the options were white, laced, and heeled. Those can be very cute, but I'm not sure how those would handle if there were now or ice involved... :/
holla back atchya 1.2012-ers!
your colors sound sublime! we're doing creams, ivory, gold, blush (uplighting) and navy accents.
can i get an 'amen' for a to-die-for bolero?!?
Love your colors!
March 2012 here. :) It really ISN'T that far away, is it? :) I felt crazy, but now that it's so close to 2011, I feel like it's okay. :p
Okay ladies, January is finally just around the corner. Who else is looking forward to answering the question "when is your wedding?" with "NEXT YEAR!!"? I guess for me that's a literal answer, but I figured some of the 2012 bees are excited about this too.
Right now the best answer I can give is a confusing "Next year. Well, I mean just over a year from now. In 2012. But January. January 2012. It's not that far away! Really!" ;D
i got engaged in late october, my favorite part thus far is when people ask if we've set a date and i say, "yes, January..." and before i can go any further i see a small look of, oh, say... judgment cross their faces as they briefly take a glance towards my belly, before i finish with "2012."
i will be half pleased when january 2011 passes, half sad as it's been an amusing part of my engagement!
Our venue doesn't take bookings until one year out, max. I can't wait until next month when we can book it. I'm wary of making any other plans until we have the date/venue secured.
