Hi You should go to Mexico or Central America or Caribbean if you have the money. Places like that are warm in the winter time.
If you want to go to Europe, I would wait until late spring. I hate vacationing when it's cold unless it's ski lodge.
I'd just go. We went on our honeymoon 2 days after the wedding and I thought it was great. You're still on a high from the day, you're really newlyweds, you desperately need the down time to relax, etc. I don't think it matters where you go as long as it's not hurricane season or anything crazy :) Depends on what you can afford and what you'd like to do! I've had wonderful holidays at all times of the year. The only thing to keep in mind is holiday season. We got married 12 December and wanted to go to Vietnam but the flights were super expensive being that close to Christmas. We ended up staying in Australia but did pay extra for some things because it was school holidays.
We're getting married in Oct. but going on our honeymoon to Aruba in Dec. after hurricane season but before the holiday high season. Have you considered the caribbean? more affordable than europe even in winter and it's nice weather year round.
We are leaving right after the wedding to go to St. Lucia (Sandals). I can't wait to go. While everyone that I know will be freezing we will be on the beach. Plus, you may not want to go to an island in the summer because of hurricane season.
I'm getting married in the winter (Feb) and going on the honeymoon in the fall/winter (Nov) all thanks to FH's job with a MLB team. Thanks baseball!
I agree with going to the Caribbean in the winter. Its usually in the high 80's and perfect! I have been to Jamaica twice in January and once in November. January is amazing, November not so much. Try to go before hurricane season starts (Dec-April) so the water is clear and free of debris. November is the crappy caribbean month, it rainy and cold.
If you go somewhere in the southern hemisphere, it will be summer! Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand...
The one thing about the caribbean during the winter is that the seas are usually really rough and pretty cold, so any boating, snorkeling, or scuba diving is pretty much not offered by companies.
I don't know where you are located... but from the east coast of the US it is not very expensive to go to the Carribbean in winter (as long as you don't stay at a top resort). It's a great time to go! It's usually in the 80s and its not hurricane season!
Also, I have to disagree with goldfishpie... I've been to the caribbean 4 times during the winter (jamaica, mexico twice, dominican republic) and there is definitely swimming, boating, snorkeling, and swimming in the ocean!
You could try visiting the southern hemisphere--South Africa is one of my dream vacation spots!
Go! I got married last January and am SO glad we went right away!! You'll want the calm and relaxing alone time after the wedding :)
My wedding is a bit earlier but we are heading to Hawaii two days after and I know by then the idea of warm and tropical will be music to my ears, but I will say there is never bad time of year for Paris.
I honestly want to rent a cabin in the dead of winter in nowhere Ontario. Lock ourselves in with yummy food and not leave for a week. However, FI is planning the honeymoon and we are going to Disney World.

For those of you getting married in winter (December/Jan.) are you going on your honeymoon then, or are you going to wait until the summer? If you are going to go on a honeymoon right away in winter, where do you plan to go?
(I'd like to go somewhere warmer/hot/tropical...but in the winter, I think it's real expensive to go some place warm (like Bora Bora)....so I am contemplating waiting until the summer and have a less expensive honeymoon to somewhere warm/hot....like Caribbean or Mexico or Hawaii...another idea is to go to Europe in winter)
thanks,
starry
