I’d ask your bridesmaids what they feel comfortable in.  Also, you could give them a bolero/cardigan/pashmina as a gift if you wanted to.

My bridesmaids are wearing long dresses.  After talking it over with them we all agreed they would be freezing in shorter dresses.  I think that winter weddings (especially in the evening) have more of a formal feel and long dresses would look nice.  I am gifting the girls a pashmina shawl for them to stay warm.

A short dress in Colorado in the winter feels sort of cruel to me. But do you live in Colorado (or some other place that gets cold)? You’ve got a year–at the first snowfall, go outside in a short dress and hang out for a few minutes. See if it’s bearable or not.

I’m getting married in January in Missouri, so it’s pretty cold here too usually. While all of my maids are wearing long dresses (their choice), for a while they were considering short dresses with tights. They’re all in strapless dresses too, so I’m giving them shawls to help cut the wind when we’re outside.

I’ve been enduring Minnesota winters my entire life, and I think you should be fine!

Give them the freedom to have something warm–bolero, wrap, tights–and don’t make them stand outside for too long for pictures.

I love short wedding dresses in the winter, especially with maybe really beautiful wooly tights and cute snow boots/wellies.

I think short dresses are fine for winter (we’re doing them). As long as there’s something the girls can use to stay warm (wrap/shrugh/tights/etc) that it should be fine. And they won’t have to pick up the skirt each time they go outside to keep it from getting wet/salted.

a short dress is fine! i’m assuming your getting married inside and might only be outside for some pictures, right? if so, consider gifting tights/pashmina/cardigan or something similar.
