What are some options you've seen for keeping your bridesmaids warm?

My two bridesmaids are wearing Impressions 1587 in midnight (navy blue) satin. My colors are navy and yellow, but I think black will look best over the navy dresses.

I'm thinking black pashminas, but I'm not sure how useful they will be in keeping them warm and whether my MOH will even reuse it at all (tomboy).

I've also thought of a bolero, but haven't found one at a good price that will go with the dress. Plus, same issues of warmth, usefulness as the pashminas.

The only other alternative I can think of would be to just let them wear whatever coat they'd like. I'm sure my bridesmaid has a nice dressy black coat, but I doubt my MOH does.

I'm having a winter wedding and my girls are actually wearing a strapless knee length dress! (they picked it!). I'm not too worried about the cold because they shouldn't have to be outside much. They can get into their dresses at the venue and the ceremony and reception are in the same place. The only times they will be outside in their dresses are to/from taking pictures (indoors) and maybe after the wedding. They are free to wear their coats at that point. I did buy them pashminas just in case it is chilly in the venue, but I kind of doubt they'll even use them.

I had the girls buy white faux fur wraps.  December is PA, you never know what the weather will be.  We are getting pictures taken at Washington Crossing park. I am hoping the wraps will keep them warm enough for pictures.  Plus the girls have muffs for the hands.

I'm not a big fan of black and navy - why not a yellow pashmina?

Would your MOH reuse a bolero? As if not would you be better getting a pashmine as it'd be cheaper?

@Prewitt: I can't imagine that she would wear a bolero again, but I've seen some that seem more casual that she might like. I originally thought I'd get them really nice pashminas, but then the thought of MOH's going to waste was less than ideal!

I wonder, do they come big enough to double as throws?

@Beluga: I think yellow against the navy dress could border on being too crayola, plus I am leaning toward a soft yellow something to go over my dress to keep me warm! I personally think black and navy can look classy.

    @junabiona:

I think they're too rectangular and long for a throw, though saying that it'd be the right shape folded up longways for going at the end of a bed. Have you asked her what she thinks, at least then you wont be worrying if you're doing the right thing or not?

@Prewitt: Nope, I was originally going to surprise them, but seeing as how I have my doubts on whether she will like it, I'm thinking about consulting her.

Honestly I think the pashmina could be used more, even by a tomboy everyone needs a scarf? I voted for the pashmina

I am having a winter wedding, but it's in California, so although it can be very cold(close to freezing) it won't be as cold as the East coast. They will only be outside for pictures as well. Everything else will be indoors. I got them long dresses though. I did buy them a wrap to cover their shoulders at the church.....but otherwise they are on their own :(

I would let them choose between the pashmina and bolero...if the tomboy would be more comfortable in the bolero, and the other wants the pashmina then let them get what they want. Are you taking a lot of outdoor pics? because if you aren't then who cares what they keep warm with from car to inside :)

@missbangbang: outside photos are possible, but not a given. the church is very cute and in a state park, so there could be great settings for pics. however, i wouldn't push for wedding party pics outside unless the weather was cooperating.

Also, the girls will have to walk from the parsonage to the church (just across a yard) and wait for their turn to enter. So, they will be outside, but it shouldn't be for any significant amount of time.

Going with a black pasmina shawl.

Of course, if I decide to wear a black coat, maybe that will change...

    Thanks for the advice, bees.
