I am considering to “propose” (pardon the pun) to my fiance that we change our wedding date to December 17th. It is the week before Christmas and I like the idea as Christmas is my favorite holiday. A few thoughts to consider:
1. My wedding colors are black, white and yellow. Not exactly your typical winter wedding colors. And they are NON NEGOTIABLE. I’ve already bought the bridesmaids dresses (in black) and I am insanely obsessed with yellow roses and my entire wedding is focused on that.
2. We are in Florida. The sunshine state. So the yellow is semi appropriate and it’s never actually COLD here by ANY standards.
3. If we notify his family immediately or second a SECOND “Save the date” there would be time for people to make travel arrangements. BUT is there a chance that making travel arrangements to celebrate with us will ruin their holidays?
4. Still no idea if my fiance will like or approve of it but I wanted to run it by the hive to see first.
How can I keep my colors and make it a real winter wedding? I’d def have a smores station and I’d def butler cappuccinos and hot chocolate! My cocktail hour was going to have a mariachi band (my fiancé is mexican) and sunflowers rather than yellow roses for a tinge of a mexican feel. Is this now inappropriate if we go with a december date?

Unless your families all come to FL for the holidays anyway.. I would say this is probably not a great idea. I think it would put a lot of pressure on them and make for a stressful holiday. And, if people have to fly and book hotel rooms, the cost will skyrocket around Christmas. Just some things to consider.

My response is this. My family is here already. His family would have to come. Luckily it’s winter vacation from school (I think – I will double check that) and it won’t be extremely difficult to get here. His cousin lives the closest, she is one hour away. So she can put some people up. We have a two bedroom at his house so we can put someone up. His parents own an RV that they will bring that can put a few people up and there is a hotel that is walking distance to his home that we can see from his balcony that I get a discount at – it won’t be as great a discount during the holidays but I am sure they will work out something for me…..

YAY!!! Wedding date buddy! And I am in FL too! We were supposed to get married next month but between stress and financial issues we decided to push it to next year. LOVE your colors!!! Who care what anybody thinks about the colors…it’s your wedding! And I love them. My mom doesn’t exactly agree with my colors..fuchsia, black, and white…but it’s my day not hers 😛 As for ruining anybody’s holiday..hey they don’t have to come if they don’t want to but if they love you and support you they will be there with a smile on their face! I am doing a christmas tree… a white one with fuchsia and black decor on it for our guest to put gifts under. Do you like damask? I am throwing some of that in there too. But if I were you I would keep the yellow as just accent colors…like tablerunners, sashes, or napkins, and have everything else in the black and white, besides you don’t wanna look like a BEE ;)Happy planning!

@MrsMckaytoBE – we decided on October 29th, 2010. So the colors kinda fit the fall mood. But don’t worry this will NOT turn into a Halloween affair! 🙂
