I think it's a great idea! You really can't get too casual. A rehearsal dinner can be anything you like!
No way, it sounds awesome! We are doing ours at Saz's. I'm getting down with a big plate of ribs in my fancy dress.
I agree, it's not too casual. In my experience, the rehersal dinner is usually much more casual than the wedding itself. I've never judged the formailty of the wedding by the rehersal dinner. Besides, the food choicese sound yummy and it's making me hungry! =)
As a native cheesehead, I think it's sounds like a very fitting WI rehearsal dinner.
sweet. when my FI and I were in Madison over christmas, we went to the restaurant we're holding it at and sampled the fish. its fantastic and really "authentic" WI.
Our rehearsal dinner is at Famous Daves...I've never been there before, but I guess it's a favorite!
I'm from Wisconsin originally and LOVE the fish fry idea. I had a friend in college who worked at a great fish fry place in Madison (although I can't for the life of me remember the name!) and I MISS IT! You'll have a blast. Also, @MrsLintner2be, Famous Dave's is great, I'm a vegetarian and would go with my friends and just eat all the yummy sides. Have a blast!
@ SummerCamp- Really?! That's actually great to hear, because I'm the only vegetarian in our two meat-loving families, and I figured that I wouldn't find much to eat there. Thanks for letting me know otherwise!
For our Wisconsin reheasal- It is going to be steak on the grill and potato salad. Yup. That's what my host makes, and what my fiance loves! (As well as every other Wi person that will be in attendance!) I LOVE fish fry. When I lived out west I really missed it! People didn't even know what it was.
A fish fry is perfect! That's exactly what we're doing as well.
@Denverbirdlet - ME TOO! My fiance and I are getting married in Door County. He is from Green Bay, but I'm from TX and almost all of our guests are out-of-state. We wanted a really casual, local WI rehearsal dinner to welcome everyone so we're doing a Fish boil with whitefish and all the trimmings (potatoes, corn, onion, coleslaw, etc.) and beer and cherry pie!
Rawrkitty - that sounds great! I love a good fish fry, and I really haven't found anywhere to get a good one in Denver. it seemed like a nice WI welcome to our out of town guests as well.
and ummm, cheese curds are amazing. NOM
there will definitely be some spotted cow in attendance. and some capital amber and capital island wheat. hey, has anyone tried capital brewery's new one? It's called Wisconsin Supper Club - I think it sounds great and i love the name!
I think a rehearsal dinner should be whatever the bride and groom wants it to be. Since our families are all traveling from out of town for our wedding, we are just having pizza and sandwiches at the Golf Club/hotel where our wedding/reception is the next day...that way they can show up Thursday night and not have to worry about driving their cars until Saturday afternoon!
I Adore Rustic Ale by capital, and i'm not even a beer drinker usually!
I like Supper Club in a bottle - hate it in a cup (was just at Capital Brewery this weekend and in the plastic cup it was reminiscent of Miller Lite).
We're doing a lower-key rehearsal dinner too at a downtown restaurant (no deposit or room rental fee - yay!).
Where are you going for the fish fry rehearsal dinner? We're always on the lookout for new deliciousness!
it will be at Kavanaugh's Esquire Club on the east side - Sherman Ave.
Never been - I'll have to broaden my horizons and venture through the isthmus to get there!
its a little run down - very much a wisconsin style bar/supper club. but the food is really good and they carry local microbrews on tap.
Kavanaughs is fabulous - the food is great and the service is wonderful! And, it's owned by the family of a student in my class :) Enjoy your Wisconsin fish fry!!
What a cute idea! Just be sure to offer an alternative should a guest not eat fish..maybe chicken wings or really great pizza, have fun!
some things never change ...
I had a fish fry rehearsal dinner back in 1984! ;) Yay Wisconsin!

We are doing a Wisconsin Fish Fry for our rehearsal dinner, with baked beans and cole slaw and beer. Is this too casual for a rehearsal dinner? We wanted to showcase my home state a bit since all of my FI's family is from CO and TX. Our wedding the following day is a semi-formal afternoon garden wedding with a sit-down dinner.
