My self esteem just plummets. I’m at the point where I don’t even feel confident to speak in front of people. I feel like I am never going to get a job. I wish our inherent self-worth was not so attached to what we do…

You have to keep hope alive… Getting jobs has gotten tougher and I am pretty sure you are capable of obtaining a job. When the right one for you comes along you will get it! Do not worry and I know it hurts with rejection but remember you have to take one step at a time.

It took me three years after graduating from law school to find full time employment as an attorney. I was a licensed attorney working at the front desk of a doctors office to pay bills while interviewing for full time attorney positions. It sucked and it was demoralizing. Thankfully the ladies I worked with at the doctors office were amazing and supportive throughout the whole ordeal. I know I had about two dozen interviews including at least 4 or 5 where I was in the last 2-3 candidates for a position that I was ultimately not picked for.
At the interview make sure to ask two things before you leave: 1) what concerns do you have about me doing this job? (that way you have a chance to address those concerns); and 2) I want this job because…. A lot of people forget to actually ask for the job. The first time I tried this technique I was finally hired full time.
