My name is spelled a little differently. It’s in my name so I will just share. It’s unique but I recently found a girl with my whole same name so Im not worried about the first.
In case you haven’t figured it out yet, my name is Lyanne. Like Leanne or Lee-Ann or however else you can spell it. Only With a y. Catch. Eh?
Anyway, my whole childhood people either spelled or pronounced my name wrong. I learned to deal. No biggy.
Now in this age of social media, my typed spelled name is pretty obvious, seeing as how anytime you talk to me on Facebook my name is right there.. Like, immediately beside the box in which you are typing.
So why do people still send me FB messages with my name spelled wrong!? It’s like they look at it and go “Gosh, she must have been drunk when she made her profile, I’m goin to spell it the way I think it is”
Any insight? I’m not really upset per say, more confused. Can someone enlighten me as to why this happens?

Not quite the same thing, but sometimes I get emails at work addressed to Jennifer. My name is Jessica and it is right there in my email signature. I don’t get it either!

@lalalyanne: Any hope of blaming it on autocorrect?

Haha, I am a college instructor, and I *always* get emails and papers from students with my last name spelled wrong. Like, really? It’s IN MY EMAIL and on the syllabus, on our course website, on the assignment sheet, etc, etc… Ugh!! Lol, I feel your pain. And Lyanne is very pretty!

I get this often too. Changing one letter at the end of my name makes it a guy’s name instead of a girl. I see emails go around with me cc’d and people who’ve never met me referring to me as a guy. Alternatively, everyone adds an extra A I my name and pronounces it differently. My name is fairly unique so I guess that’s why, I’ve only met a few other girls named that. I’m so used to it now that I don’t even bother correcting anyone who puts the extra A in there.

That drives me nuts! It’s never happened to me but I see people do it all the time on Facebook and feel so embarassed for them. There is LITERALLY no excuse when the proper spelling is right above the box you’re typing in.
