I ordered my Maggie Sottero gown through a small, mom-and-pop dress shop near my home. Naturally, it came in & needed alterations. I had 2 fittings and at BOTH of them, she mentioned how the fabric puckered in ONE place in the back near my hip. She suggested I go on a water diet!! WTF? Its sitting there and my wedding is next saturday. I’m so horrified to go try this dress on again in front of this horrible woman that I’m actually contemplating having my FI pick it up for me.

🙁 i’m sorry she wasn’t nicer, maybe she didn’t mean anything by it? a water diet isn’t an alteration that they do, so it’s not any of her business… she’s supposed to fit the body you have, not try and make your body fit the dress. definitely pick it up in person and if it puckers, ask her to come up with a REAL solution.

what is wrong with that woman! your body, your choice to have it be whatever size you want. Its absolutely not a seamstresses place to suggest you go on a diet.

wow it seems a lot of alterations people are just plain rude

I had so many horrible experiences when I was trying on dresses…was afraid I would never find a dress…walk into a store and have people look me up and down and say, well, THAT dress doesn’t come in your size, the big dresses are over here…and there would be like ten dresses as opposed to the hundreds in the smaller sizes…never thought that a size 18 wedding gown was out of the ordinary, considering more than 50% of women out there are a size 16 or up!!! those rude people should look in the mirror…we all want to be beautiful on our wedding day and it doesn’t help when the dress experience is aweful. I put off buying a dress for about four months after the first two places were such bad experiences.

What a witch! I’m sorry she makes comments like that, ridiculous! Next time if she says something like that to you, say you don’t need to be altered, the dress does and that’s why you’re here. That ought to shut her up.

That is really rude, uncalled for and extremely unprofessional.

I went into one dress shop by myself so I could try on a few dresses and the lady was a total biotch, that I asked her for her name before I left and then I told her “Great, when I come back in I will be sure to not let you help me, since you were so rude to me!” I had always loved that shop for all the bridesmaids dresses I have purchased and for friends getting their wedding dresses, but I didn’t buy mine there. I am not a rude person by anymeans, but I will let someone know when they are being rude.

i had a friend that bought this wonderful dress and she order it for the size she was at the time. i think they altered it for her as well. like a month or so before her wedding she had her last fitting and it didnt fit her it was too tight…AND she had lost weight….like not just a few lbs…i mean a noticeable amount! she was still a bit heavy so they tried playing it like she gained weight!!! her and her mom were talking it out (in their language) what to do about it and the lady said that if they were to speak in their language that they would have to go outside!!!!!! the people at this place were so so so rude!!! i would never recommend them to anyone! your not alone!
good news is that my friend got a dress for cheap and quickly at davids and they were really nice to her and her family. also she now has the chance to wear her original dress because she got divorced and is getting is remarried 2 years. shes doing her best to loose weight to fit into it.
