Beware, this video and possibly the story alone is disturbing.
If you choose not to watch the video or read the article, I’ll sum it up for you.
A criminal justice major is on the NYC subway late at night and the woman in front of him is passed out. He watches as a sketchy looking guy gets on and sits next to the woman then proceeds to manually molest her VERY visibly in front of him. The woman is passed out so does not notice nor wake up.
Instead of intervening, this criminal justice major (and grown ass man), chooses to video tape it instead of do something. It’s my understanding from the article that every one else on the subway realized it was happening as well.
I am absolutely APPALLED that not a single person did anything to save this poor woman. What good is it to watch, video tape, let the criminal and victim leave, and THEN alert someone of what just happened?
Too many times people rely on the “what if he was dangerous” or “what if he had a gun or knife”. You’re absolutely right. What if it was dangerous or had a gun and then followed that woman home and raped and killed her and you didn’t do a damn thing to try and prevent it?
I’m sorry, but there is so much wrong with this situation. Please tell me I’m not alone in thinking this.

@KateByDesign: I’m not sure if the link is wrong or there was some other problem, but I couldn’t open the link. (EDIT: OK then, it’s probably my security settings). Which is probably a good thing.
That is sick. I am appalled. If the woman was murdered would he have done the same thing?

@paula1248: Oh weird, link works for me.

No one did anything?! OMG What is WRONG with those people???? How do you not react to that?! I would have flipped my shit!! I’d be yelling and pointing and confronting him. That’s just disgusting…
I almost don’t know what’s worse. That it happened, or that no one said or did anything. I hope those people need a lifetime full of therapy just to sleep at night.

@paula1248: That same scenario, unfortunately, has happened. See the murder of Kitty Genovese: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Kitty_Genovese

@frogprincess: Yah, it’s interesting. It’s why I love the show “What Would You Do?”.
Sometimes I’m amazed at how great people are and then it takes something like this for me to be reminded that there are so many self centered awful people in the world as well.

This is disgusting. I like to think that if I were in a similar situation I would say something to stop it, especially if there were plenty of other people around!

@sayanything: I would beat the crap out of this dude with my shoe. And if he was really scary and I was alone and thought he would hurt me? I would start SCREAMING so loudly that it didn’t only wake up the woman but stopped that damn train.

Idiot. LETTING it happen and doing nothing is just as bad as doing it yourself. I bet if the woman was that guys wife or sister he would have done something. (and if not then i feel bad for his wife)
Even if the guy did have a gun or a knife- a subway full of people vs one man – guess who’s gonna lose. if 10 people jumped on the guy he wouldn’t even be able to move.
Besides -If your so worried about the guy having a knife that you will let a girl get molested right in front of you – then why don’t you have one.
My fiance doesn’t go anywhere without his pocket knife and you can bet your a** if that happened in front of him – he’d be making that guy wish he was never born.

Ohmygosh. Letting something like that happening is disgusting. Isn’t that like association of a crime? (I’m not good with legal mumbo jumbo words) I can’t believe that. This poor woman was molested and VIDEOTAPED by someone who could have stopped him. Wow. I’m sick to my stomach.

WHAT!? That poor girl! All those people should be ashamed.

@Rouquine: Yes – I feel like he should be punished for not doing anything!
