With the holiday season upon us, one of the things that has been ever present lately is the office holiday party. Has anybody had anything crazy happen at theirs? How do people normally act? Do they have food, maybe a drink or two, and head out, or do people get completely trashed? What are your thoughts on behavior at the company holiday party?
We had ours recently and there was a mix. Some people were upstairs, talking, while others ended up getting wasted. I ended up not going…I like my co-workers, but I have some boundaries set. Between having a really long, tough week and knowing the things that happen at these parties, I felt like staying home.
Anybody have any good stories? Or what are your thoughts on the office party?

We always go, stay for dinner and a few cocktails and go before anyone has a chance to get stupid drunk. I do believe in showing up and making an appearance, but I like to keep coworkers at arms length and don’t share too much about my personal life.

@tksjewelry: I agree, it is good to make an appearance. In my case, one of my bosses wasn’t able to go, and the other was only able to stop by for about five minutes. It was after I would have normally left anyways. We do appetizers/snacks. It’s pretty informal. I feel bad, I normally go, this year, I just wasn’t feeling it.

My old company had a huge party at a banquet hall with several hundred people. It was pretty boring so I would usually go and be seen, eat dinner and leave.
My holiday party this year (new company) is much more formal. It was at the owners home on the beach and catered with an open bar and a band. We stayed for a couple hours and most people behaved themselves. Its a much smaller company so I sort of felt obligated to go.
