OK so been kicking my own you know what for awhile now. Really doing good, really feeling good, counting calories and all that jazz! Ok so I know muscle weighs more then fat, and I have been doing nothing but HARD CORE cardio, and gained weight, not what I want to see, but I can tell I feel better, and even look a little better…HOWEVER…I see my waist going down some, pants getting bigger around there, which is cool…but…my thigh muscles are getting bigger! NOT COOL!
I have really stalky (Spelling?) legs, like if I were a man it would be awesome! So yeah, really stalky legs, and I want them SMALLER not bigger. (only like 5’3) Been doing nothing but cardio, like elliptical and then this other machine at the gym thats like a stepper and a elliptical in one which is the second highest calorie burning machine at my gym next to the rower. So I do that one A LOT and burn TONS of calories. But like I said, thigh muscles getting bigger and dont want that. One of my friends told me to go on the bike at zero resistnace and just keep my heart rate up. so I tried that tonight, and burned a FRACTION of the calories. So am I going to loose out on the weight loss portion and triming down then? I mean I know I will still see results but LOVE the workout I get from the other machine, just not the thigh muscle increase!
ANY ideas or anything Bee’s! Kinda frustrated!

I’m sorry you aren’t seeing results. Have you tried spinning? That is a great cardio workout. I would also try pilates, that can help you thin down your legs.

Oh ya, pilates I have done before and I just need to get back into that, I am however kinda limited. Squats and lunges would KILL me! Three knee surgeries and waiting on a knee replacement! (which wont come for a LONG time and have to ride out on my destroyed no cartilage knee) Yeah, not cool and MAYBE should have put that above! Thanks bee’s! ; )

Has anyone else had this problem or any other advice as far as a good work out to trim and slim and not build bulk?

Hi there! I’m kind of in the same boat. I’m 5’3″, my legs are muscular and in the past I’ve done a ton of cardio-treadmill, elliptical, falling staircase…everything. I have found something that’s been working really well as of late. I bought a heart rate monitor to track really how many calories i’m burning, and now I see that the cals on the machines aren’t very accurate. So, it’s been helpful to know how much i’m “actually” burning, and I’ve started doing a lot of interval training. 30 sec or 1-min sprints followed by 30 sec or 1-min of steady pace and continue for 30mins. I’ve found that the treadmill at incline 2 speed 6.5 for 30 sec. followed by incline 2 speed 9 kicks my butt. Just a suggestion. Hope it helps

Hmm, I think musceled thighs are attractive so my advice would be to make sure that that’s something you dislike. 🙂
However, what about arm work outs? Buiding muscles in your arms (arms are unlikely to get bigger, women don’t usually bulk much – jessica biel for example is muscely but hardly bulky) will also increase calories burned and not affect your legs.
Maybe swimming? Something that’s more full bodies than focused on legs.
