Hi there! I’m 5’0.5″ with a small waist but big butt/thighs, and New York and Company’s “short” length pants are my go-to. I have had to hem some things, but others are fine off the rack. Pants usually run $40-$50 full price, but they are always having sales and will send a ton of coupons if you sign up for their emails. If it matters, I think they do tend towards “business casual” rather than dressier/more formal business, and some of their stuff can be really trendy. I work in a school so this is perfect for me but YMMV of course. Good luck – I will be watching this thread for sure!

I am 5ft 3. I really dislike spending additional $6 to $12 for hemming.

Cleo Petities
Laura Petites
But for curvy-friendly pants, my go-to is Reitmans in the Petites section. (They feel like Yoga pants but look like work pants)

Good luck with shopping, OP!

Investing in a sewing machine and a couple classes might be worth it.  Hemming is super easy.  The only tough part is making sure it’s straight.

My mom (who is teaching me how to sew) can hem 3 pairs of my pants in about an hour.  The most time consuming part is taking them on an off to check the length and straightness several times per pair.

Oh, and her sewing machine is 30 years old.  It has definitely paid for itself several times over.

I just discovered the store torrid (sizes 12 and up). They have pants that fit amazing (jeans, pants, slacks, leggings, etc) and most of them come in a short! They fit perfect and I haven’t had to hem a pair of their pants yet!

And… for curvy-friendly anything, Marks Wearhouse is awesome for dresses, but I haven’t found pants that fit nice from Marks Wearhouse.

For jeans, I go to Lucky.

I like Express for both jeans and work slacks – I buy them in short.  I find the ones that are slightly flared work best for me…I sometimes have to hem or cut even their “short” versions, but I like how they fit my body, so I don’t mind too much.

I honestly haven’t found any other brand that I like as much for petite work slacks as Express, though I’m always on the look out!

@maloussii:  I don’t know if they would ship to the States, but Reitmans carries 28″ and 30″ inseam pants in their petite section (I am 5’2 and need a 29″ as 30″ is too long and 29 too short). I don’t know if the shorter inseam would be too long for you? I guess southern Ontario would be closest for you. Oh, and they are made for “real” women (as their motto goes), so curves should not be a problem. Also, they are under $40 CAD typically. http://www.reitmans.com/Pants/Pants,default,sc.html?prefn1=silouhette&prefv1=Petites

@sherryberry:  Ricki’s 30″ is too long for me haha! I think someonewho isshorter than me would definitely find them too long and I am only 5’2″!

@maloussii:  The pants that fit me best are Dockers Petite Short lenght. I have a REALLY short inseam, like 26-7″, I think. They have a “petite length” and a “petite short” length. If I wear a low heel, I don’t have to hem the petite short length at all!

Also, Kohls sells a petite brand that has “curvy” shaped dimensions… it’s the Apt9 collection. In some sytles, they also have a “petite short” length, which is 27.5″.

I’m 4’11” btw.

My mom is 5’2″, she often buys pants that are meant to be capris/cropped and they are full length pants on her without needing alterations.

^ I should add that Kohls is always having sales, so even online nothing is ever full price. If you like the Dockers or Apt9 “Curvy” pants, invest in a Kohls card and stock up on pants whenever they have a special card member sale.
