@WhiskeyEverAfter:  Wow, just wow! We are doing a bit of DIY but have an amazingly cheep decorator putting it all together as well as a DOC (came with the venue) who will also know what’s going on. I would be a total, crazy mess if any of that happened in my wedding, way too OCD for that 🙂

Sounds like my nightmare – that’s why I’ve got a wedding planner and a toastmaster inc in our package.

gotta know your strengths, man. The one acronym that I didn’t want anywhere near my wedding was DIY. It’s…just not my speed. Not gonna lie, I definitely overspent on the multiple wedding coordinators and event designer. But I’ve been planning events long enough to know that the peace of mind of waking up Saturday morning and no one expecting me to be anything other than a BRIDE will pay dividends.

@WhiskeyEverAfter:

Good grief: It doesn’t sound like they thought about their guests and vendors very much apart from them actually being there.

And THIS is why you don’t tell vendors your wedding is a family reunion or non-profit party.

What’s terrible is you and the family were expected to make everything just dandy for the couple, when they did not prepare for it (and probably expected everything to be perfect).

Why did the band need a hotel? Is that normal?

I actually love hearing about these! I always take notes on what not to do or what must be done for my wedding. That being said wen to a wedding las nigh and the emcee had no clue as to what he was doing (lot’s of down time).

That is a fantastic mess! I can only imagine looking at all the stems and going “Well… I have no idea how to arrange this.”

Yikes! I will definitely have a wedding planner.  Probably not even just a day of coordinator, but someone who will be looped into the details several months before my wedding.  I’ve done some work in the wedding industry myself, and find that DOC that come in at the last minute, are sometimes useless.  My sanity is definitely worth the money!

That’s why DIY is not for me! I get WAY too stressed out to do it. I know it’s more money to get other people to help you, but for me it’s worth every penny!
