I'm getting married an hour away from where I live so I'll be spending the long weekend there. I'm planning on taking off Thursday and Friday but I might add Wednesday to that if I still have a lot on my to-do list.
I'm really curious to see what other people have done!
Good question! And a decision I am not going to make until a lot closer to the day. Since I will be leaving my job, though, it will probably just come down to what works out best for us financially.
I took off work the Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday before the wedding. I'm so glad I did because I needed Wed & Thur to take care of last minute DIY and errands. By Friday, everything was finished, so I was able to have a spa day with my sisters before the rehearsal!
I definitely plan to be off on the Thursday and Friday prior. Our rehearsal is on a Thursday night because our venue conducts weddings on Friday evenings, which is my reasoning for taking off Thursday as well.
I keep wavering between whether or not to work the Wednesday prior as well. I have a lot of out of town guests and wedding party members, that part of me wants to use that day to organize and prep. Oh, the decisions!
Wednesday's the one I'm wavering about -- but also strongly considering, since learning earlier this week my office has all-day retreats on Monday and Tuesday that will keep me tied up and (panic!!!) away from the computer!
Our wedding is on a Friday and I'll be taking the whole week off because I know I'll have plenty to do, and I don't want to be a stress case the day before the wedding. And I've been saving vacation days all year for this very reason! :)
I'm taking Thursday and Friday off. I'd like to take Wednesday off too, but my boss didn't seem to crazy about the idea so I let it go. I am abandoning my office right before they have to put on orientation for our law school. Guess I can't be too greedy. :)
I think that if you have the time off, you should take it. I'd happily sacrifice a shorter holiday vacation for more time to prepare for - and enjoy - the wedding. I'm getting married on a Friday and am taking Thursday and Friday off. Wednesday would be nice, but with a week-long honeymoon after the wedding, well...not going to happen with my work's time off structure!
My wedding is a 12 hour drive from where I work, so I'm forced to take off Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in order to have enough time to organize, set up and get ready for the wedding. It's too bad, because I have a lot to do at work next week as well... but it will be nice to spend some real time with family and friends before the wedding!
My wedding is about a 4 hours drive from where I live so I'm taking off Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I'm actually kind of upset about taking that time because a really major exhibtion I've been working on for over a year (I work in an art museum) is opening the day of my wedding. Such is life!
I live 1.5 hours away from the wedding so I will definitely be taking Thursday and Friday off to help with the last minute prep. Lucky for us, the hall is allowing us to start set-up Thursday since that is when they are prepping the tables and table settings. We may take advantage of that.
I am 4.5 hours away, so we're taking off that Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to nail everything down.
Our wedding is out of state, so we're taking off the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before. I probably would have done the same if the wedding is close to us, though. Mostly, because I would want that time to get organized, and RELAX. Some people have said they preferred working right up until Friday because it kept them busy, but not me, I need the time to mentally prepare myself!
I took off the Friday before only. I may take all of Thursday or just half - haven't decided yet! Our wedding is over Labor Day so I'll have the Monday after off - PAID! YAY! :) I'd like to take Wednesday - Friday off, but my boss would have kittens!
Um, I hope I get a good enough job I'll have to worry about this. Right now I'm interning and working retail. Lucky I have time!

I'm trying to decide what to do about working leading up to the wedding. I definitely need to be off the day before (a Friday). But do I also take off that Wednesday and Thursday? Only Thursday? Half days?
Did you (or will you) take off from work in the days leading up to your wedding?
