So I’ve been putting off working out and today I finally bit the bullet and started. I didn’t want to join a gym because I have a hard enough time getting out and exercising, I know it will be worse if I also have to drive somewhere first.Â
I decided to do the Couch to 5k
plan. I felt like i was going to die afterwards, but I generally felt pretty good. I was going to take up biking, but I know running burns a lot more calories. Â
I plan on running Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. I am thinking of also supplimenting another day with Yourself Fitness
. I will probably do another day of core workout to tone my tummy. Â
Has anyone else just started their wedding workout plan? How is it going so far?

joined a gym w/ my fiance… for the past month we’ve been doing our own made-up half ass routine (lets stretch! lets do cardio for 20 min! lets do weight machines! relax in the sauna! done!) based on what we did back when we really worked out. but now we are both considering getting a personal trainer for a few weeks to actually see some results.

My fiance has access to a gym for free at his school. For some ridiculously low price he can get sessions with a personal trainer.
He was thinking of having a couple just to get an idea of the best way to approach things. Â
I’m really hoping that just the act of working out will cause us to start shedding pounds. Neither of us are really overweight, but we also lead a fairly sedentary lifestyle. I think just some sort of exercise is good.

I’ve been working out with a trainer since last July. I love him to death (even if I hate him for what he does to me now and then!), and have become much stronger and more fit during the last 14 months that we’ve been working together. (Loss of only about 10 pounds, but overall change of 41% to 33% body fat, and a really big difference in my strength levels, which is pretty neat.) I see him on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a half hour. I finish my cardio before I meet with him, and then he and I weight train together. Over the past few weeks, he’s had me doing some specific weight training on my days when I don’t see him, and I’ve noticed a significant change in my caloric burn due to that. (I use a BodyBugg from 24 Hour Fitness, which is the gym I belong to and is where I see my trainer.)
However, I’m currently in a rut. I don’t want to work out, and feel completely burned out on it right now. Perfect! 4 weeks before my wedding, and my body wants to get all lazy on me! GAH!
Actually, I’m sure it’s my mind getting lazy on me, but whatever. I don’t want to wear my BodyBugg any more (I have the subscription to it through the end of the month, but planned on stopping wearing it during the week before my wedding so I wouldn’t have any strange marks on my arm from it), and I don’t really care what I eat, and I can’t motivate myself to get up in the morning to go work out except for the days when I’m seeing my trainer. Last week, I only worked out 3 days, when I’ve been averaging 4 – 5. I slept in this morning. And I feel like crap because of it.
Anyway, just wanted to vent, and I’m glad someone had a post about working out for me to do it in. I’m hoping I can get my brain kicked back into gear as the week wears on, since working out really helps me stay sane and happy, and I know I just need to push myself a bit.

Update on how I feel after working out:
I am in SO MUCH PAIN! My legs, arms, and back are so sore! I have been whining so much today, my poor fiance has to listen to me. Â
Hopefully I can force myself to run again tomorrow.

Have you considered something active that isn’t necessarily in a gym or running solo? You could try yoga, dancing, or some sort of team sport if that would be more fun for you… I’m personally a huge fan of yoga because it’s quite gentle on the body but if you take a flow type of class, it’s still a good workout.

well i went in for a free 1 hour fitness test at our gym yesterday. (my fiance went too but at different time with a different trainer) It was …interesting… to get my body fat measured, do the heart rate on a bike test, flexibility and a couple other tests. my trainer then created a program for me based on my goals & my results and took me through it twice. only 1 thing on my new circuit was something i was doing on my own (okay, so i tend to do the "fun" machines). it was really enlightening. afterwards my fiance and i got to compare our fitness print-outs (im better at flexibility, he’s better at being made of less fat). Maybe your fiances gym has a similar fitness test?

I began charting the number of minutes I exercised each day (in excel, but graph paper would work too — anything you’d look at regularly), beginning 5 months before the wedding. It started off as a behavior modification plan for a grad class I took, then I continued it as motivation to exercise daily, whether it was going to the gym, jogging outside, or just going for a walk.

I don’t mind going to the gym.. once I’m there I am ok. It’s getting me there that is the hard part. I have been going about 4x a week..which is good seeing as it was a struggle before to even get to the gym once.
I find group exercise classes to be the most fun. You meet people, so it’s kind of like meeting your friends out. (hey, I have to trick my mind somehow! ) or better yet..get a group of friends to go with you. I am currently taking a Dance class at the gym (Gold’s) .. WICKED FUN.. and it’s a different kind of cardio. I’m not expecting huge results from it..but it does keep my interest! I do that class 2x a week, regular cardio and weights the other days.
The clothes are fitting better. Not a whole lot of Scale movement.

I ran again today and afterwards I felt 10x better than I did after my run last week.
I slacked during the past week and didn’t run the two other times I had planned on. But now I am definitely going to keep up with it.
That being said, I am going to be running Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. I was thinking I’d also like to throw some sit ups/crunches in there another couple days. What is a good target for how many sit ups or crunches to do to make a difference, but not make me really, really sore?Â

One word – spinning! It is the greatest cardio exercise. I would never work that hard for an hour on my own.

- Wedding: September 2007 - Westbury Manor
Good luck with the working out. I slacked off so much two months prior to the wedding. Fortunately, I didn’t gain any weight, but sadly, I didn’t lose any either. Can you believe that I finally started getting my act together after the wedding? Lol!
Oh and I excercise at home. We bought a elliptical which I love and we also have a bench to do weights. I love working out at home!
