Hey everyone! I only had time to work out once again this week. My school schedule isn't very convenient for exercise this semester. At least next semester I will have a class Mon & Wed which makes it easier. How was your week?
My week was not good for exercise...first I am in the middle of midterms so school is consuming my life more than normal (and with working full-time on top of that and it's been CRAZY busy at work), plus I am getting chest pain again! GEEZ. I cannot catch a break here. Thankfully my eating is still going really well, so I am down about 7.6 lbs in the past 6 weeks! Woo hoo!
@MissAsB: That sucks about school. It really takes so much out of a person (on top of working)!
I have been really good about c25k, but not very good at toning or anything else. I think what helps with c25k is I have a clear plan I am following. If I can't find a plan with Jillian's DVDs, I might just have to make one. I did lose 0.8 pounds this week, and I am at a little over 9 pounds of weight lost. I am trying to decide on a reward for myself once I get to 10 pounds, and then maybe every 5-10 pounds after that. I have about 15 to go.
Hi Bees,
I am new to this thread, I started going to the GYM on Saturday. I am currently @ 172 lbs @ 5"7 and my goal is to loose at least 22lbs to bring me down to 150. I am a fulltime employee and student so I know it will be tough but with all your support I know I can do it. thanks for posting
Good afternoon, ya'll! It's been a rough day food wise and I know I'm not working out tonight. I didn't take a day off after the 5K and my legs are kind of yelling at me today.
I still can't believe I finished my 5K in 33.03 minutes. Last year I did the same route in 47. 47.08.
Goal for this week - lots of kickboxing and sweating and elliptical. And stop eating crap! I was so good for several weeks. STUPIDNESS!
Tonight I have my bootcamp class at the gym. Its always a good workout and walked 2 miles at lunch. As usual I probably undid my good last week with too much wine this past weekend.
Today I took it easy (because Mondays are hard enough on their own, lol) and did "Core Rythms Latin Cardio Jam". Its a DVD I've had forever, but it's fun to do every once and a while (its a dance workout). Its a half hour, and it gets you sweating, but still not the hardest thing in the world.
Tomorrow I think I'm gonna do the Shred, don't know which level yet though.
After weeks months of saying I'm going to workout/eat healthy, I finally started! I did 1/2 hour last night on the eliptical and another 1/2 this morning. I also want to try and get some yoga in tonight, and really need to start my ab exercises but relaxing with a jack and coke isounds very tempting at the moment.
My friend is a body builder and I spent some time talking to him about nutrition yesterday. He told me to try and limit myself to ONE COOKIE PER WEEK. Seriously guys... I am an OREO ADDICT, And I spent all of Friday baking!! But I think he is right, I need to cut myself off cold turkey, because "trying" to be good just isn't cutting it anymore, so I sent all of the cookies (minus my beloved oreos) with FI to work today.
I did ok last week but this weekend was bad - booze and popcorn! So this evening I made myself do three circuits of Jillians BFBM workout. Goal is that on wednesday and friday I try and go for four circuits, then five. Tuesday and Thursday are my crazy days, so I'm just not going to beat myself up for not being able to get in a great workout on those days.
I walked Monday and Tuesday, went for a 2 mile run and did Jillian Michaels NMTZ Wednesday, went to spin class Thursday and pushed myself to the max, intense elliptical workout on Friday, 5-mile run Saturday, and 3.5 mile run today. I'd really like to do a better mix of strength and cardio than I do currently! And, halloween candy is taunting me! I already gave into some peanut butter m&m's...yum!!
@guitargirl:thanks!! i worry a lot that i don't do enough so that makes me feel good :)
I was only able to work out once this week- I started out October so well, and I've fallen off. Hopefully I'll get back on track this week.
@huckleberry783: That's amazing, way to go!
So turns out I'm at the point in my physical therapy where I actually go down to the gym (my pt office is in a gym) and work out with a personal trainer. So yesterday, after having an easy day I went to physical therapy and worked out some more! It wasn't anything hardcore, mainly ab exercises (I have a lower back problem) but I was not expecting it and I was thankful I didn't do a hard workout beforehand (I had contemplated doing an insanity workout).
On a funnier note though, the personal trainer said "How about you hop on the treadmill and just do 10 minutes of walking to get your body warmed up". He then proceeded to set my treadmill at 2.5. I walk fast...like incredibly fast. Fi sometimes has to jog to keep up with me, and I blame my mother because she also walks fast (she, in turn, blames her father, lol). And I laughed and said "dude, I can walk comfortably at 4.5". He straight up didn't believe me! He was like "you have to either be "power walking" or jogging at a 4.5". Well, I proved him wrong, hahaha. I'm pretty sure my back could be near broken and I would still walk faster then 2.5...
And I'm kinda excited (and kinda nervous) that I'll be getting an extra workout 3 times a week for the next couple weeks (I'm almost done with physical therapy) and it's with a personal trainer on my insurance's dime.
how do I join work out buddies? does someone post a topic and you just say what you did that day?
@tbody: Basically, lol. MissAsB starts a thread and we all brag (or complain, lol). It's a great source of motivation!
okay. I'll be looking for it. but I come to fitness to find them right? cause it's always a new thread. ??
I don't see one for today.
@tbody: Welcome! A new workout buddies thread gets started typically each Monday by MissAsB. All you do is find the one for that week and talk about how good or bad you were with your fitness and/or nutrition that week!
Hello! First time posting on the Workout Buddies thread :) I had a rough week with my knees last week and took a 4 day break. Incidentally, I was also PMSing and ate like crap all weekend. I am definitely paying for it this week. My knees still hurt and I wanted to quit every single second I was on the treadmill. Thank goodness for re-runs of wedding shows or else I wouldn't have made it.
I am thinking I might need to quit running altogether or figure out my running stride so that my knees don't kill me. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem? It feels like my bones are grating on each other with a sharp pain.
I've been fitted for running shoes and have inserts because I overpronate. The doctor suggested glucosamine/chondroitin tablets along with strength training on my quads. Anyone have other suggestions?
@dance: Yuck about midterm time!
@guitargirl: Have any good rewards planned for your weight loss?
@jdamian: Welcome to weddingbee! Good luck with your weight loss!
@completelyrandomsally: Great job with the 5k!
@lefeymw: Darn that wine.
@MissTatas: Good luck working out! I don't think I can stick to a one cookie a week thing. I need to allow myself splurges!
@Dragonsus: Great job!
@huckleberry783: Wow you are doing great!
@IlsaLund: I only worked out once last week too. Don't feel too horrible.
@MandaMack: Glad you can start working out again.
@tbody: Welcome! I only post the thread on Mondays and we update as we have time during the week. Hope it helps you!
@baldor1: Welcome to workout buddies! I'm getting horrible cramps at the moment which make me want to pig out! I have some serious knee pain too that keeps me from running. I used to go to PT for my knees but it's been a while and it's sort of wearing off. The thing that really helps to build up my legs by biking a lot.
I might work out tonight, depends on how I'm feeling. My cramps are killing me at the moment!
I took last night off and I'm taking today off too. It feels nice to relax a bit. Kickboxing back in gear tomorrow night.
@MissAsB: I've done spin classes in the past and loved it. But my gym only offers classes in the very early morning (5:30am) or early evening (5:30pm). I'm not a morning person and the early evening classes are always packed which would require for me to arrive an hour early then wait around. Looks like I am going to have to learn to get up early. Or ask for a spin bike for Christmas. Teehee...
What sort of exercises do you do at Physical Therapy?
@guitargirl: The doctor couldn't find anything particularly wrong and attributed the pain to early onset of arthritis which is in my family. He also said that my extra weight is putting a lot of pressure on my knees. I'm 30 lbs overweight and want to lose it but find it difficult if I can't move my knees. Grrr...
@baldor1: I used to do stationary biking, strengthening with bands around the ankle, and muscle stimulation. I haven't been there in years though. I like spin but I never did that before when I was in PT. I just used a regular bike and actually biked to work (before I had a driver's license).
Hi everyone! This is my first workout buddy post too, what a great idea. I'm supposed to go running tonight with DH and my friends (we're part of a running club that meets every Tuesday- it's actually how we met) but it's so darn cold and rainy and I want to come up with a million excuses not to go... we'll see if I'm headed out the door at 5:30...
I want to get into climbing, anyone experienced with it? I think I'm going to try to convince a couple of friends to go with me on Wednesdays. I tried it a couple of times a couple of years ago and really liked it, but it never became routine. My DH is not into it at all and he's usually my workout buddy, so it's going to be extra hard to get motivated if I don't have any other friends who are interested.
Anyway I like this thread a lot and happy it's here for bees to talk about their workouts!
Today my workout at physical therapy was 40 minutes long - 15 minutes on the treadmill then 25 minutes of strength training (abs and lower back). Then when I got home I did the Shred level 3. That was my first time doing level 3 and it was a good workout, but I don't think it was that much more challenging then level 2 - or maybe I'm just getting in better shape!
Tomorrow I have no physical therapy so I wanna do an insanity workout.
@seattlemeg: Welcome to workout buddies! Do you mean rock climbing? I used to do indoor rock climbing and loved it.
@MandaMack: Great job! I've heard that the second level is harder than the third. I still haven't gone to the second level yet!
I did 30 minutes of yoga last night and ab exercises. I think I am going to take it easy tonight- my body still isn't in the swing of things, and I slept for crap last night. Good luck to all the ladies who will be kicking butt and burning calories tonight!
ah. crazy computer took away my post. Anyway, Hi to all. I'm glad this is here also. I just joined today with a whirlwind of information and told to go do it.
For exercise, I did my beginner program on the Body Shop. I ordered my Forza DVD and the Bokken last night and I bought the scale today also. So, I'm getting supplies ready so I can do this the right way. Thanks for the welcome and I hope to be able to contribute more as i learn who is who if that is possible.
Hi everyone! This is my first time posting on this thread and I think it is excellent! I recently recommitted myself to my exercise routine, so it really begins last Friday for me. I have done 2 45 minute stints on the treadmill, Jackie Warner's upper body workout once, and 2 30 minute yoga sessions. I am excited to have people to share this with! Good job everyone!!
I did 20 minutes on the elliptical last night. Normally my c25k runs are Thursday, Saturday (easier days to do) and then I work either Monday or Tuesday in. I ran Monday, so I can run either today or tomorrow, and the other day I am thinking of doing either BFBM or NMTZ (or maybe part of each). FH just had his tonsils out yesterday, so I took off this week. It allows me more time to workout, but I am trying to do more around the house.
@baldor1: I have a yucky knee and also overprononate. Spin class and lunges, along with stretching, have really helped my knees. I feel like when my upper legs are stronger, it makes my knees hurt less. I don't know how scientific that is, though :)
@tbody: Welcome and good luck! Do you have any goals that you are trying to reach?
@ScarletJwl: Welcome! You are doing great so far.
@guitargirl: I hope that your FH feels better soon. Good job so far this week.
@huckleberry783: I have to agree with you. When my upper thighs are stronger, my knees hurt a lot less.
I forgot to write last night but I did the first level of the Shred last night. I was sweating bullets and panting like crazy. Stupid asthma.
@MissAsB: Yep, rock climbing! I think after I get back from my friend's wedding and my mini-moon(which I go on tomorrow! yay!) I will start seriously looking into the rock climbing gyms. I feel too shy to go by myself, so hopefully at least one friend will join.
I didn't end up going running last night, booo. But I'm sooo excited to be packing up all my workout stuff to go running in DC while I'm there for my mini-moon. I can't wait to go run on my old college track and hit the trails around my campus with my husband! I'm almost tempted to say that I want to run everyday starting on Monday!
I'm going to attempt to do some abs tonight to make up for my lack of running yesterday...
@MissAsB: Yeah, but it will be like 2 or 3 miles each time, except for maybe a 6 miler I might sneak in on Wednesday if we have time. My husband and I had a good routine going for awhile where we were running everyday, and I had to when I was on my college track team, so it's not too unusual for me. We'll see how it goes though, we will be on vacation so we might not want to spend the whole time planning which runs we will be doing everyday.
Today I did one of the insanity workouts - the hour long cardio circuit. Insanity kills me...I have two words for you: shin sweat. I am so sweaty even my shins are dripping (your shins are the last part of your body to start sweating).
I'm gonna sleep like a baby tonight. Tomorrow I have physical therapy and I think I might be ambitious and try to do NMTZ on top of my pt workout. We'll see though.
@MandaMack: Good job!
I couldn't do my DVDs today since our only DVD player is in the living room where FH is recuperating, but as I was typing, I realized I could try using my laptop to do them down the basement. I did some workouts from cable on demand- an abreviated NMTZ, yoga abs, and pilates leggs, so 35-40 minutes of toning. I am going to c25k tomorrow (week 4, day 3), and maybe some toning.
For those of you who do Jillian Michaels DVDs, which do you prefer and why? I am interested in starting one but honestly a little afraid :)
I did 30 on the elliptical today, 30 of yoga, and my ab workout. I think I need to kick things up a notch because I'm not feeling the burn, but today I felt like I could barely breathe while doing cardio (I hope I'm not getting sick!)
Next week I want to start working with weights.
I did a kickboxing workout on ExerciseTV on demand tonight. I'm sore, but it feels good to workout after two days off.
