Hey everyone!  I'm hoping to get back in the swing of things this week.  I'm not sure if I will have time to work out until Thursday though with school and doctors appointments bleh.

How is your week going so far?

Last week went pretty well, managed to work out 5 days.  I rather like meeting with the trainer Tues and Thurs evenings, as it spaces my morning workouts enough that I'm not dying by Friday. It's a lot easier working out early in the morning 2 days than 5! So I've been doing Cardio  X and Insanity Pure Cardio on Mon and Wed mornings and showing up 30 minutes early to the gym Tues and Thurs evenings to do a half hour on the bike before my strength training session with the trainer, then a run on Saturdays.

Feelin' good, although my knee was bugging me a little yesterday, which is kinda scary. :(

I've been meticulous about my diet, too.  Haven't seen any changes on the scale yet, but I'm hoping to see some movement by the end of this week, since it would mark a month of this diet/exercise regime (I think that's more than enough time for my body to adjust!)

@CaraMia10: COngrats on ur moment of clarity :) Very inspiring!!! You can do it. get some nutrition cookbooks so u dont fall back into mad eating habits!

@mrshfmstr: Yes!!! You got the motivation back!! What was it that clicked for you?? So awesome good job!

So saturday morning I did the half marathon here in Manhattan.. it was 13 degrees and felt like six. I woke up and almost didn't go but my fiance made me. (so glad he did) I got there and it was so cold- i almost quit after a half mile bc my toes felt frostbitted and i didnt know if they could warm up!!! After a mile they did, and I finished 4 minutes faster than my best half marathon time!!! I did it in 2:01:36, it was a 9:15 pace!! So happy!!! I'm doing another one in April, yay!!

@seattlemeg: are you training for a marathon??

@lezlers: how do you like Insanity? Better than p90? way harder? FI wants to start after p90 is done.

@Seattlemeg - (responding to post on last weeks) - i LOVE that you are trying to PR on the half. I think my attitude tends to be more "just get through it" than really training HARD for it and for a good time. I sometimes feel like im a lazy runner.. i dont train to the maximum :( i need to change that. I love your attitude

@lezlers: I agree, I'm now working out early AM 2 days a week, and doing two other workouts after work. It feels good to split the days up like that.  Be patient with your body, and stay on your routine, it sounds like you are doing awesome. Take care of your knee early before it turns into any sort of problem.

I'm a bit mad at myself for not doing anything over the weekend. We never made solid plans, and the group run was cancelled on Sunday due to the hangovers after a snuggie crawl (which was an interesting event- I'm happy I decided to be DD). So we didn't run or go snowshoeing- ugh.

I did crossfit this morning, I'm frustrated because I'm not a natural at getting the correct movements down, but I'm going to stay with it. My abs will thank me.

@flyinpig3: 9:15 pace is not exactly "just getting through"! You're doing awesome, I challenge you to get under 2 hours on your next half, you can definitely do it after running in the crazy cold in January. April will feel like a breeze, stay healthy and uninjured and you are there!

    @flyinpig3: 9:15 pace?  Hot damn, woman!  I thought I was a rockstar when I finished a half in 2:2something.

Insanity is WAY harder than p90x.  Your FI might prefer p90x, though, as there's much more strength training.  Insanity is mainly cardio.  The only strength training you get is some push-ups here and there.

@lezlers: ohhh more cardio nice. thats better for me. (although i usually run on the p90 days so maybe not). ill tell him that- he likes the strength training in p90. i was relaly excited about the 9:15 pace :) i have done 2 other and they were both around 9:40. yay!

@seattlemeg: its more that im not training to my fullest potential.. im doing like 5 or 6 a few times a week and then i freak out right before  and do like 8 a week or 2 before. so i feel if i really trained right i could do much better. but life gets in the way of my long runs! (excuses excuses!) but yes im going to try and make more time for the april one. my mom is planning on doing it with me- walking half and running half- so that will be fun

Ooooh, I love reading about you guys and your workouts. I have been prtty awful with mine. 1st week in January I was sick so I didn't go to the gym at all. 2 week in January I went to spin class twice. Third week in January I went to spin class twice. I suppose twice a week is better than not at all, but it sin't nearly good enough. I really need to step it up. I'm aiming for 4 classes this week. Three spin and one African Dance. If I have more time then I will throw a Pilates class in there.

I am semi-watching my diet, although FI is a terrible influence and is always trying to ply me with wine. I've dropped about 4 lbs since the beginning of January, but it has definitely plateaued in the last week or so. I don't plan on weighing in again until the 31st s will update then.

So last week was a complete bust...but today I did 40 minutes of kickboxing with weighted gloves and I re-did week 1 day 1 of the hundred pushup program (since last week was a bust, lol).  During the ab segment of my workout, I was in a side plank and you were supposed to reach under your body with your top arm (to work the obliques) and my shoulder like half popped out.  It hurt like hell!  It doesn't hurt now that I'm not working, but I'm still gonna ice it tonight.

Tomorrow is my day off from pushups, and I'm hoping to do a Jillian Michaels workout!

I fired up my Wii Active for the first time and did the 20 minute hard workout - I can't believe it but I am totally feeling those squats tonight!  I have barre tomorrow, and spin on Thursday, and hopefully I'll be able to pop another one in this week.

Today was a bust. Work is crazy and I was stuck there late again. I guess I am also a little frustrated b.c I weighed myself this weekend and I haven't moved since the last time I weighed myself at the beginning of December. I feel like I should have seen at least some results! I know I'm not the best with my diet on the weekends, so I guess I have that to blame. I've at least noticed that some of my clothes fit better, but I was hoping to drop at least a few.. Oh well..

Hopefully I'll be back at it tomorrow...

@hermitcrab: When you say barre, do you mean something like the Bar Method? Or ballet? Either way, I'm totally intrigued, tell me more!

Last night I did a few sections of No More Trouble Zones, tonight did week 5, day 1 of C25K.. tough!!

@kirabee: I'm not sure what Bar method is, and it's definitely not ballet but here is the description of the class from the website: Flywheel has introduced the perfect complement to indoor cycling - FlyBarre! This revolutionary form of body sculpting blends the best of yoga, dance, circuit training, pilates and strength building. By pairing deep-muscle conditioning with intense stretching, FlyBarre delivers results each and every time!

It's pretty accurate and I looooove it!

what worked for me was actually my wedding dress :) its in my closet in my spare bedroom and i put it on and realized that i have to have a little extra room in there if i want to breathe. so since my last post on last weeks thread, ive worked out almost every day with the 10 pounds in 30 days workout on demand :)and on my "days off" from working ive been running for about a half hour or so. i think im doing pretty good and hopefully in 4 months my dress will fit perfectly, and it has to becasue there is no way i can afford having to buy a new one... so to end this i am actually going to go and work out right now :) good luck everyone this week

@hermitcrab: Sounds awesome! The Bar Method is ballet-centric aerobics, from what I understnad. It sounds really cool and there's a gym right near me but it's SO expensive.. Undecided

I've been doing well with dieting and working out.  I did 6 week 6 pack on Sunday with my SO.  I think he was more sore than me after!  I'm also doing it this afternoon.  I'm going to a 55-minute kickboxing class on Wednesday and Thursday this week too.  Also plan on running at least one day this weekend.  I've been at the same weight for 3 weeks, and it's really frustrating.  Hoping to see some change in the scale next Monday when I weigh in.

Just a quick tip for those trying to lose weight/inches through running.. it probably won't happen.  Try replacing some of your runs with a quick walk instead (speed walk for 45 min - 1 hour).  I usually add 2lb dumbbells which helps tone my arms as well as my core (stabilize abs while pumping arms) Walking burns calories from fat, whereas high intensity workouts (ie running) utilize calories from carbohydrates.  Running is great for cardiovascular,,, not so great for losing weight.

I ran for MONTHS wondering why I wasn't seeing results.. started speed walking instead and went from 185lbs - 120lbs in about a year.  I paired it with healthy eating and have kept it off for the past 5 years :)

@leembee:  depends how fast you're running.  My "runs" are usually at a 11:00 or 12:00 pace.  I can keep up a conversation without straining so I can't imagine it would have that different an effect on my body than speed walking would.

I could never lose weight when I was running a ton because my freaking appetite would get totally out of control.  NOTHING makes me hungrier than running a lot.  It's really crazy.  That's why I keep it to 1 to 2 days a week now.  Anything more than that and I've got to put a padlock on the fridge.

@leembee: uhhh saying that running won't make you lose weight is insane lol. Have you seen professional runners?

Edit: Here is a good article on walking vs. running. Running burns carbs while walking burns fat. In the end, calories are calories and running burns them faster. If you are not eating correctly, and you are binging on the wrong foods after a run bc you are more hungry, than obviously walking would make you lose weight faster. Nutrition is 80% of weight loss. The first few sentences of this article are enough to get the whole premise of the article.

"Your body burns either fat or carbs depending on the intensity of your activity. But when it comes to losing weight, calories are calories. You burn fat even when you're in couch-potato mode. Yet, a lot of misunderstanding prevails.

    • Myth: The body completely shuts off one fuel source when it turns on the other."

So far, so good! Monday I did 3 miles on the treadmill, and 6 miles on the bike - then DH and I came home and did P90X Ab Ripper.  It probably wasn't super effective, because we kept giggling at each other, but my abs hurt yesterday!

Yesterday I did 8.5 miles on the elliptical and some crunches on a ball.

And, I haven't had a soda in 18 days! I know that's nothing major, but for someone who was drinking 3-4 20oz. bottles a day, it is a big deal for me!

I didn't work out this morning.  Woke up at 10 to six and just could not do it.  Ah well, I'll just have today be my off day instead of Friday.  :(

@lezlers: Thank you! I can already feel it.  I haven't really lost any weight, but I am a lot less bloated and "sloshy" feeling, for loss of a better word.

I can't work out early, I have tried so many times.  I wish I could, it would free up my evenings a little bit, but I always get really queasy that early in the morning.  That takes some serious dedication!

@MissAsB: :-( What's your plan for Thursday? Are you going to workout? Make some goals, girl! make this little setback get you more motivated!

I did my "regular" (in quotes because I have not been showing up regularly) Tuesday night 6 miler with my run group. Even though I was dead tired I pushed through with the help of one of my running buddies. I ended up running it in 43.57 and was the second girl to finish! I think that's the fastest I have ever run the route! I'm determined to beat the fastest girl by time the summer gets here!

Today's my rest day (and happy hour!), tomorrow I've got a track workout (taken from the golden gate running club)

2000m (5 laps), pace 10 seconds per lap slower than 10k pace
    4 min rest
    1500m (3.75 laps), pace 10k pace
    3 min rest
1000m (2.5 laps), pace is 5 seconds per lap faster than 10k pace
    2 min rest
    500m (1.25 laps), 5k or mile pace

    Friday is crossfit- dreading it....

Today I had a dentist appointment and my body is still exhausted from yesterday, so no hardcore workout.  I did do Week 1 Day 2 of the hundred push up program and 10 minutes of Pilates stretching...which is more then I wanted to do, lol, but I'm glad I did!

Been good the last two days.. Did P90 Core tuesday and last night I did NMTZ and then played volleyball for 2 hours.. I haven't done that in a while and I was noticing how much higher I could jump since the last time.. My FI has also been doing good with P90, so that makes me happy too.  We have a dinner for his work this weekend and I want to look good in my dress!  :)
