I've been doing really well, but somehow strained my knee on Friday so I have been taking it a little easier. Yesterday I did 3 miles, and ab work.
Unfortunately taking my dog out this morning, I slipped on the ice and it feels much, much worse. I have been using ice all day, but will probably take the off from the gym to rest it a little.
Back at it tomorrow though!
A lot better once I got my stitches out! Managed two solid workouts and was a bit worried how I was going to get a workout yesterday (had a bachelorette, today is a public holiday)... part of the bachelorette day turned out to be an hour-long belly dancing lesson! That was definitely an abs and hips workout, arms too! Hoping to keep that up this week with at least 30 mins of exercise EVERY day.
@Lindsay12.31.2010: Oooohhh OUCH!!! Do upper body workouts!
Missed a day yesterday so i am working out twice today.. going to run and then do back and biceps p90
I'm doing pretty well. Last Tuesday, I hurt my back doing JM's 6 week 6 pack, so I had to go to the chiropractor and forego my Wednesday and Thursday plans for kickboxing. But I was feeling a lot better by the weekend, so both Saturday and Sunday I ran for 3 miles and did 6 week 6 pack. I also played tennis for an hour on Saturday.
I want to workout at least a half hour everyday this week. Hopefully an hour on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday because I have more time. I definitely want to make it to at least one kickboxing class this week (probably Thursday), so that will be my workout for that day.
went to the gym sunday to thursday last week...but i havent been the last few days and i now feel like a whale, went drinking twice this weekend and ate whatever was put in front of me...just gonna have to work extra hard this week to make up for it!
I've been doing awesome--I've run about 30 miles each week for the last two weeks and lifted weights twice each week. Woo!
I'm a little more tired than usual though (all that running!) so I'm going to try and get some more sleep in to fuel these workouts...
@flyinpig3: Thanks! I did upper body and abs! Thankfully it feels MUCH better today. Still twinges when I put a lot of pressure on it, so I will stick to the elliptical today!
Hips and abs were still aching a bit yesterday after the belly dancing the day before so just went for a treadmill walk and run yesterday. It's starting to become a habit - I feel crappier if I don't exercise so it motivates me to do it!
@Lindsay12.31.2010: Yay good job!! You dont wanna mess with knees.. my fiance screwed his up running and after surgery it is still not better, a year later. not good!! keep icing it!
I ran about 7 miles today and then did back and biceps p90. im so tired now and i have to work til 10:30 booo!!
@flyinpig3: Damn girl, 7 miles! Wow! I am gearing up to go before the storm hits. Luckily our apartment complex has a really nice gym, so it is very close. I am going to do my normal 8.5 miles on the elliptical, and maybe P90X Ab Ripper if I am feeling ambitious :-) We will see. I am so happy my knee feels better. I have hurt myself before with cheerleading and such, but it felt different, more serious - thankfully resting and icing seems to be helping tremendously.
@Lindsay12.31.2010:Nice-- good luck. we are getting another blizzard here this week too. it is ruining my running schedule lol!
last week was pretty pathetic...went to the gym once, and attempted to do "6 week. 6 pack". I got through about a quarter of the Jillian Michaels workout before realizing my living room just isn't big enough for my 6 foot tall body and super long arms to spread all out!
Headed to the gym tonight, and I am really going to push myself to go everyday this week (assuming we aren't snowed in tomorrow...8 inches expected).
@Taylor4: 30 miles is great! I'm only around 20 right now and feeling pressure to up it in order to get better trained for my half marathon in May. What's your running schedule like?
Last Thursday I was too lazy to do the scheduled track workout I was going to do, plus all my friends I normally work out with were bailing for a ski trip, so my husband and I decided to just do two miles on the track and call it a day. Too bad our fast friend actually was there and willing to do the workout with us- we ended up doing mile one in 6:48ish, took a 200 meter break and then did the second mile in 6:35. It was good but I haven't moved that quickly in awhile. I was THRILLED when cross fit on friday was a running based one, 1 mile, 51 pull-ups, 1 mile. For once I wasn't last, I was actually third! I ran super fast on the first mile, needed some serious assistances with the pull-ups (three bands!) and then it was weird to not be able to feel my arms for the first quarter of the second mile. Crazy good workout though.
We were lazy all weekend, walked about 5 miles on Sunday and did not do a long run... ugh, it is so hard for us to get motivated when it's not a big group of people.
Today's crossfit was killer, another arm based one, so it actually hurts a bit to sit and type, BUT I'm seeing results and my husband is really proud of me.
Here's hoping you bees aren't too snowed in!!
@Lindsay12.31.2010: feel better!!
@seattlemeg: Wow! 6:35 that's awesome! I am NOT running for speed at all so I'm impressed! I just get out there (or due to all this crummy weather, on my treadmill) and grind out the miles. Right now I'm not training for anything so I do 4-5 miles 5 days a week, one rest day and one longer 7-8 mile run on the weekend. :)
I'm thinking I might do a sprint tri later this year so maybe I'll cut down mileage and work on speed. :)
I just ran 6 miles...I think I'm gonna die...running works your body in a completely different way than workout DVDs.
Oh yeah, and I was doing 2 minutes at a 7.5 incline and 2 minutes at 0 the whole time (on a treadmill).
Just got home from SPIN class... worn my heart rate monitor and burned 700 cals... WAHOO!!
@Taylor4: Nice, I'm impressed with your dedication! I briefly thought about doing a tri but road bikes kind of scare me and I'm an awful swimmer, so I'm putting that goal off for awhile. You'll have to give us details about your training for that if you decide to do it!
I'm going to try to make every Tuesday run (with my run group) this month and not complain about it! (minus the one I'm in Idaho, I'll go running with my ex-college teammates that day) Anyone have big goals for February?
@seattlemeg: I really want to join a running group. How do you find them?? Just google??
@seattlemeg: Haha--actually that's exactly why I haven't done a tri yet either! I haven't biked since I was 10 years old and I can only swim enough to keep myself from drowning! But it seems like such a neat thing to do, and sprint distances are short enough that I'm sure I could flail through it if I had to! I figure I can start easy this winter and just do bricks on the machines in my gym to build stamina. :)
@Taylor4: When you ran 30 miles in a week, how did you break up the miles? I did 7 yesterday and I feel like theres no way i could do that many again for at least a few days.
I've done fairly well. I have been doing 30 minutes on the elliptical about 4 days a week plus one day of toning. Today I could only muster 20 minutes on the elliptical. I want to run, but don't have a treadmill (don't like them) and it's way too cold and icy outside to run. I have plateau'd a bit, but done one pound from last week to 159.8. I started at 180, and I think my goal is 150- we'll see.
@flyinpig3: I found Seattle Running Club by googling it when I first moved to the city. It took a little while for me to build up confidence to go. There were a couple other running clubs, one that ran from the Nike store downtown, and a social group called the Anti-freeze that were other options, I ended up being really happy that I chose SRC because it's how I met almost all of my friends in Seattle and how I met my husband! I was looking for a group that wasn't too intense, and wanted to have fun. There's another group here who are really cool people but they're a bit too competitive for me, especially after I had taken a two year hiatus from running after getting burned out in college.
I found the Golden Gate Running Club (who I've only gone to for one track practice so far but they're a lot like SRC) because a friend of mine had known about them and had done one of their long runs with them. My buddy is not too fast, but a marathoner so I trusted his judgement on the group. So that's another way to find a group that you'll like, ask any running friends! I think I'm going to also become a part of GGRC because I go down to SF once a month and I'd like to workout with them while I'm there.
Finally one other source to find running groups is facebook! you can search there and get a good idea and feel for a group if someone maintains their page.
Sorry for the novel of a response!
@Taylor4: I agree, it is a really neat thing to do. You're putting the thought in my brain to try one this summer! Ack! I've got to get through this half marathon in May and then maybe I'll realistically consider it. Definitely keep posting about your progress!
@seattlemeg: oh facebook, how did i not think of that!!! thanks for the info- i appreciate it. im going to start looking today. and i hear u about getting the confidence. i feel like im back in kindergarten when i join new groups lol
@flyinpig3: I'm planning out 32 this week and this is what it looks like:
Sun:6
Mon:5.5
Tuesday: 3.5
Wed: 4
Thurs: 5.5
Friday:3
Saturday: 5
Since I'm not training I'm not really working on speed so the short workouts (3.5 and 3) are mostly walking. I use those as "rest" days. The 4s and 5s I try to push a little harder, and the 6 I just slog out at a steady pace.
@seattlemeg: If your'e training for a half marathon in May an early fall sprint tri seems ideal. ;)
Hey ladies! I did NMTZ! I'm completely pooped now but it feels good. On a bad note, I think I might have an ear infection/sore throat. My right ear hurts and it hurts to swallow food a bit. I don't wanna be sick!
@Taylor4: wow so ur running every day. I think my problem is I like to bang out a lot of miles but then I feel exhausted the next day and my body feels a little over worked (ankles, knees etc). I could do 7, rest, 5, rest, 7 ish.. but that would only be 19 ugh. i dunno what to do! lol
@flyinpig3: Well remember the short ones are walking! I find even if I'm a little muscle sore I can walk at a leisurely pace the next day and do a nice long stretch and I feel awesome the next day! If I really needed a complete "rest" day I would just double up the 3s and do a 6 instead one day and take one day completely off. (Or if I'm not feeling it just drop a 3 and not double up at all.)
You just kind of get used to it after a while. I'm sure at some point after doing 7 you won't feel exhausted the next day and can do a quick 3 mile run and add miles that way. :)
@Taylor4: Thats true. I think its really bc im also doing p90x . (and running instead of my cardio says) so im already sore every day. i always just feel like my ankle is tweaky after a long run. grr
i just did legs and back p90 and it was really awful lol. constant leg squats and pullups are NOT fun. id rather do a million sit ups and pushups. im going to try and run tomorrow and friday. maybe 5 and 7
Sorry for being away for the last few weeks! I have not been doing so great with working out. School is back in full swing plus work has been SO busy. I have stepped up wedding planning and had a bunch of appointments in the last few weeks too (got some more stuff checked off the list though!).
I just wanted to check in though and say how great you are all doing! I have been pretty good with MyFitnessPal - although I forget to log some days, I still follow my daily guidelines for the most part. I hope to get some more exercise in soon!
@Taylor4: LOL, you ARE inspiring me. I just need to get out and do the open swims when it's not FREEZING.I think I may need a swim coach. Got to talk it through with the hubby to see what's realistic. He's done a couple of tri's and he's really good at them. I'm getting him to be a faster runner and he is actually a really fast biker, so he may be into it.
@dance: Nice to see you back here!
@MissAsB: hoping you're not sick! ear infections can be so painful!
I used to be able to run everyday but I just can't get into it anymore, that's why I'm happy we've joined crossfit, I feel like I'm still doing something to get myself in better shape (though I know the only way to get to be a better runner is to get those miles in!) and there are some running workouts that we do.
I ran a 10k last night with the running group, faster than last week at 42.54, I'm determined to get me and my husband to the front of the pack!
I think I'm going to try out the Nike Training Ap tonight and see how that is. Then tomorrow is another track workout!
Where the heck is everyone? Come on peeps its only Thursday!! lol! I did p90 Core this morning-- am going for a long run tomorrow. cant wait!
i think ive been doing pretty well for myself. ive worked out almost everyday this past week and if i miss a day i double up on the next day. and ive offically addred in two days of running as my cardio. ive only been doing this for 2 weeks so im not expecting any huge changes yet, but im not going to weigh myself until after a month. had to have FI hide the scale from me or i would be trying to weigh myself everyday but as we all know that never works out well. anyways after rambling on now, im hoping to see a difference on the scale in 2 weeks. im kidn of excited for the 1 month weigh in :)
@mrshfmstr: NICE!!
i didnt have any weight loss for like 3 weeks of working out bc i still wasnt eating perfectly. I ate perfect this week and saw a noticable difference in my stomach after like 4 days. so annoying but nutrition is really most of what matters grrr
Bad week for me.. I only worked out 2 days. Work has been awful and I've had to stay late every day. By the time I get home, I'm exhausted and frustrated and I just want to cuddle with my Fi...
Today is Superbowl fun, which means junk food day! haha
Hopefully I'll be able to get back on track starting tomorrow..
I actually got my FI to join a spin class with me (we like to bike in the summer) and we've been loving it! It's also great motivation to keep going when I've got him by my side :) I've also been trying to hit the gym 4-5 times a week. I'm sooo not a runner but I find I can get my heart rate up with a good brisk walk on the treadmill with a little weight lifting and stretching on the side.
Yoga is great for getting those after workout aches and pains too. I've tried hot yoga but it's a little too hot for me, but the relaxing stretches feel great the day after a tough workout.
I'm not getting married for another year and a half yet so I don't have to push myself too hard yet, but it's always great to get started early and not have that horrible stressful crunch period right before the big day!
Keep it up fellow Bees!!
I drank and ate bad this weekend but continued to work out. Ran 9 miles on Friday and did Ab ripper.. did 2 miles yestrday and worked shoulders/chest/tri :)
Hey ladies! Sorry for being MIA lately, school, work, and sickness leave me tired and not wanting to do anything!
I did NMTZ today and my abs are killing me! I did it twice this past week which is a lot better than the nothing I was doing before.
I will start a new thread tomorrow morning, I don't have work so it will probably be late morning.

Hey ladies! I'm switching it up this week and starting the new thread on Sunday. I think that this will work better since I always miss people's first posts on Monday morning, plus I might not have much time to get on Mondays with work and class until 8:30. Hope it isn't too confusing! I plan on working out again tonight.
How is everyone doing?
