Id go with the champagne diamond. Go with your gut.
if you aren't comfortable with moissanite or feel like your "faking" something then go with the yellow diamond. Personally, I love my moissanite and I'm not going around claiming it's a diamond when it's a beautiful stone in it's own right.
@wintertime: I think the champagne diamond could look "dirty" next to colorless diamonds (I'm assuming that's what you meant) and a white gold band. It might look gorgeous, but I'd definitely want to see an example before committing to it.
I'd think rose gold would look beautiful with a champagne diamond. I'd probably get matching diamonds for the band, or go with a solitaire. That's personal preference, though.
The champagne diamond will look GORGEOUS! I'm a huge fan of colored diamonds. The contrast of white diamonds next to them is absolutely to die for. I would recommend going to see them in person if you haven't already. Sometimes seeing something IRL can help solidify an opinion. I saw some on my trip and they are drool worthy. Champagne, fancy yellow, pink, blue, white, I'll take them all. :)
You said there are white diamonds on the band. Is this similar to what you were looking for?

I also love colored diamonds in halos. :)

I think the contrast will look way nicer! I have a gold ring with white diamonds and I like that the gold and stones are different colours, even though my stone is small it makes it stand out far more than my friend who has the same size diamond in a very similar setting in white gold, but bacause her diamonds and ring are the same colour they look much smaller, and the ones on the side are barely visible. So yes I think a white gold ring with a yellow diamond is WAY nicer than white on white.
Be different!
@wintertime: Moissanite is only a fake diamond if your trying to pass it off as a diamond. Alot of people choose moissanite because they want Moissanite not because they are trying to pass it off as a diamond.
But If you feel better about getting a champane diamond then do that you are going to be the one wearing your ring for the rest of your life :)
I think it would be ok to mix diamond colors and get your ring in white gold because it will make the diamond pop even more!
I think the champagne diamonds can look really nice, like in the pics posted above. I would just be sure to make it really champagne so it looks intentional, just so it doesn't look like you have a dingy diamond.
@claireos: I've been looking for pictures like that for a while! Thanks!
The champagne diamonds I'm looking at are more of a light champagne colour though I'm looking at almost a pale peachy pink/yellow colour. I was just wondering if it was taboo to have a coloured diamond while white diamonds are on the band :)
@wintertime: It would not be tacky! Colored diamonds are almost always paired next to white diamonds when it's not a solitaire setting. Something like this would be beautiful:

@wintertime: There's no taboo whatsoever. I think I'm starting to udnerstand what your concern is and I had the same concern when we were buying my stone. I didn't want a white diamond. I wanted a creamy diamond. Which is super complicated because there is a spot on the color scale between white and canary that has a potential to look like a dish water diamond and not like a specific color. When you are wanting a very specific pale color it's a really good idea to see them in person. Which is even more tough because a lot of stores don't carry anything other than white diamonds.
If you are going on a cruise any time soon, that's a great time to check out colored stones. If you aren't, a lot of chain jewelers have shows where they'll bring in stones they typically don't keep in stock. If you talk to someone, sometimes they can request a particular stone be brought to the store during the show so you can view it.
Melanie422 is totally right. Colored stones are often paired with white ones to bring out the color via the contrast.
Oh my maybe I want a regular white diamond now... I'm so confused!
while mine isnt a champagne diamond, it is a K coloured diamond and i couldnt love it more. i chose K for its warmth, and had it set in yellow gold as i love yellow gold too. i think setting a darker colour like K or below into white gold, thats where you will see a difference. darker stones are not so obvious if set in yellow gold. But if you want to emphasise that it is a champagne diamond, then white gold setting with accent stones is the way to showcase your coloured diamond. i love them and cant understand why there isnt more ofthem around.
I think the contrat is ok, bit you really need to like that look. Personally, I would use unplated white gold with a champagne diamond, and let is have the wellowy look to it. But, it you want your stone to look pinker, maybe set it in rose gold...or a rose gold head with a white shank. YUM! then you could have a rose gold wedding band, and it would be knock out!
That said, I am a huge moissy fan though, but I also wear it for what it is. But, I also have diamods too, so I can understand the appeal of them.
I am a diamond person so my vote would be for a diamond of any color over moissanite.
As for the color combo I think it totally depends on the overall design of your ring. Sometimes it works and sometimes it just doesn't and ends up looking like a dingy diamond.
I personally love white and champagne diamonds mixed in rose gold settings, however I don't care for the mixture with white gold settings.
Here is a ring I think is pretty amazing:

@wintertime: do you have a picture of the color of champagne you are going for?
if its peachy pink you're going for, you may wanna consider morganite! i can't recall which bee owns this stunner (whoops!), but here's my ideal colored/colorless combo:

@MissElizabeth: That morganite ring is so pretty. I remember seeing it on the boards but can't remember who posted it either!
At the OP, I thought at first that the congrast would look strange, but after seeing the pictures some of the PPs have posted, I'm sold that it can look really great.
Like PPs, I'd also suggest going to see it in person. I totally thought I wanted one style but ended up with another after I realized what I wanted didn't look right on my hand.
I'll respect your opinion of moissanite, but understand that it is a genuine gem that is naturally occurring - just manufactured in labs (due to scarcity in nature) like some diamonds are, which is fine by me! I think that's actually cool.
get what you want since you're gonna be wearing it. if you can't be proud of moissanite, don't get it. you wouldn't be able to appreciate it for what it is, and would always compare it to diamonds unfavorably. I think your idea of a colored center stone works well, and will be unique as well as affordable.
@vreelans: Girl that second picture is way too stinkin' cute!!

My SO and I are choosing the ring together, I have my heart set on white gold with diamonds in the side of the band. I'm trying to decide whether we should get a champagne diamond (very lightly coloured, maybe with some pink in it) or moissanite. We're splitting the cost of the ring :)
It's a pretty plain ring it's small but I love it for that reason :) imho moissanite looks good but I find that it's just trying to look like a diamond. I concider moissanite a fake diamond SORRY :( it's just how I feel about it! I wouldn't want to spend 100's on moissanite, although my fiancé does love it...
Well I love c1 or light c2 champagne diamonds. They are relitively cheap compared to diamonds I'm finding just doing a little bit of research online. I'm wondering if a light champagne diamond would look strange with diamonds on the band with a white gold band.
What do you think? I want to get a champagne diamond but my fiancé wants moissanite! Which one would look better with a 14k white gold band with diamonds on the side?
