I’ve never posted on weddingbee before, but I’ve been reading a lot of posts here 🙂
I purchased my wedding gown, and I was wondering if a chapel or cathedral length mantilla veil would go well with the dress… the dress has no lace on it, so I’m not so sure. It’s a silk satin organza dress, and other than the rouching and the layering (and three flowers in the back), there are no beads, sequins, lace etc. on the dress, as you can see.
I will be getting married in a catholic church in winter, and I’ve been doubting my dress choice because of its flowy fabric (more fit for a beach/outdoor wedding, I think). But maybe combined with a long mantilla veil, it might look more formal? I really do love my dress and mantilla veils, I just don’t know if they can work together 🙂
Thanks for reading and for sharing your thoughts!

Lemme first say WELCOME to the hive! 🙂
And your dress is super GORGEOUS! I think a mantilla veil would work well with it. Any kind of long cathedral length veil would dress it up and make it more formal though… it doesn’t necessarily need to have lace on it. I don’t think there is anything wrong with the flowy fabric on the dress– it’s so pretty and totally perfect for a Catholic church IMO!! 🙂

Welcome! I think your dress is beautiful and would go with any kind of veil your heart desires!

I think it’d go with the mantilla. Your dress is beautiful but its not so ornate that you can’t add some more to it, ya know? Go with what you love, you’ll look great.

i’m going to be a contrarian.. it’s a gorgeous dress. a long veil would be fantastic – cathedral. but i would keep it simple and not do a mantilla. how about a ribbon or satin trim instead to the veil?

I agree. Long cathedral. Maybe a drop. Cut edge. Maybe a pencil edge so it isn’t so heavy. There isn’t any lacy on the dress so….

Wow, love your dress! The ruching is awesome! My vote would be for a simple veil (raw or pencil edge) so it wouldn’t distract from the dress – but that’s just my personal opinion, really I think a multitude of veil styles could work. Keep us posted on what you choose!

I love lace, but not in this case– That dress is a rock star dress– your veil should be equally awesome and complement the overall look–
This website has great veil inspiration, including a cathedral length veil with solid trim and check out the fly away veils– with your dress, and the back detailing, you may want to consider not covering it up!http://veiltrends.blogspot.com/2008/05/chossing-right-bridal-veil-length.html

thanks!! initially, i was thinking of a simple & long veil, but when i saw some amazing mantilla veil pics, i started re-thinking.
and.. i don’t want to sound whimsical (though i probably am, to some degree), but i’m liking my dress more and more based on your comments 🙂

Any long simple veil would look wonderful with your dress. A cut edge or pencil edge would be great. Mantilla refers to how the veil fits on the head, it’s a flat drop instead of a gathered, pouffier ‘traditional’ veil.

I have to admit I fell in love with mantilla veils too, but in the end they didn’t work with my dress, and I didn’t even like them on me.
I would get to a bridal store and try one on (if you can with your dress, all the better!) It might help you decide. If it was me, i would go with a cathedral length with little trim, but I don’t think a mantilla is the wrong choice!

Your dress is gorgeous! If it were my choice, I would probably wear a long veil with just a thin edge – I wouldn’t want to detract from the amazing dress! But I agree with LatteLove that you should go in and try veils on just to see what looks best. I totally didn’t want a long veil until I actually tried it on in the store with my dress. Plus, gives you another chance to put that dress on!

honeslty i dont think a mantilla veil fits the style of the dress, i would go with something a little more simple…

i would go with a long veil but without the lace on it as well to frame you more… but have you thought of having the veil with some type of crystal embroidery?
