So I'm home and sick and DH, who happens to work second shift just texted me and asked if I needed anything. I replied, "Dayquil, Nyquil, and tampons". He replied back "tampax regulars right?" and that made me think is DH normal?
DH is the only man I have ever asked, besides my Dad, because I never felt comfortable before. Would you ask your SO/FI/DH to buy you tampons? and if you did would he buy them?
It is no big deal to my FI. He is very much in tuned to my body and its doings as I feel he should be as we have a intimate relationship. I have had him pick them up before when I haven't been able to get out of the house.
I voted that I would never ask him becuase I know that he never would do it. :"]
I'm surprised by how many said YES. I'm glad my man isn't the only dude holding a box of tampax in line at the CVS.
I voted that I wouldn't ask him... Not because it's a TMI situation, but because I know that he would buy the wrong ones no matter how well I described them, and I'm really picky about my tampons. :D
He would do it, but I'd have to give SUCH explicit instructions that it would just be more work to have him do it then to do it myself.
But he'd try.
He has before. He told me once "I'm not gonna lie, I kind of hid them in my jacket."
All I could picture when he told me that was him getting hassled by security for them thinking he was trying to steal a box of tampons.
I have asked my husband to do it before, and he has said no. Not right out no, but gets an uncomfortable look on his face. Jeeze louise, the man doesn't feel embarrased about buying condoms (nor should he be), but gets squeamish at the thought of being seen buying a box of tampons. Yeesh! Luckily I live above the drug store, so I just get them myself.
My husband buys them for me whenever I've asked him. He picks up prescriptions, tampons, diapers, whatever I need!
I can't believe some guys would say no! Jeez, obviously the people behind the counter know he's not on his period.
ETA: I don't wear diapers, we have a baby LOL
He's done it once before! I could tell it made him a little uncomfortable but he didn't complain or give me shit for it.
DH wouldn't mind at all. He has even bought tampons for his mom back in the day.
mwitter80: I feel like there's something not normal with me because when I read the part where he knew which kind to get you, I thought immediately, "Aww, that's sweet that he pays attention!" Lol
He would buy them, but I wouldn't ask him to. I stock up when they go on sale and I usually have coupons, haha. I'm also pretty particular, so it's just easier if I do it :)
He has no problem buying them. I have made an emergency phone call or two and he has always come through for me.
My fiance doesn't care either way. I remember walking through Wal-Mart for the sole purpose of buying tampons... he went with me and was fine with it. I think he ended up buying them as well :)
@tntrav44: LOL that's hysterical, but I must agree. He's good like that.
If I absolutely needed them and couldn't go out myself to get them, yes he would get them. He isn't weirded out by that kind of stuff.
He would if he has no choice, but he loves to act like he would get cooties if he touches them. lol
DH wouldn't think twice about it, never has. He thinks men who refuse are insecure jerks. I don't know about the "jerk" part, but I agree a guy who wouldn't do that is super insecure. I mean, they do have the self-checkout aisles now, so there's really no excuse.
Extra points to your SO for knowing which ones to buy!
My FI has in the past anytime I needed feminine products...but thanks to my hysterectomy, I don't need to buy them anymore !!! WAHOOOOOOO!!!
I don't think I would ever ask him unless I was really sick in bed. But I think if I asked him, he would.
This makes me think of that comedy skit where the guy has buy hemerroid creme for himself and in order to cover it up, he grabs a box a tampons so the cashier thinks he is getting all this stuff for his wife.
My husband buying me tampons changed our life. I swear I'm not making this story up.
Years ago, when we were still dating, he was actively trying to become a police officer. He had been in the application process for a local police dept for 1.5 years. He had passed all the tests, written, physical, lie-detector, backgrounf check etc. The process was almost complete and we were waiting for a call anyday. While I was happy for him, I had my doubts I was prepared for that lifestyle and that our relationship would last.
One day I asked him to buy tampons for me while I was sitting home with heavy cramps. Being the sweetie that he is, he went right away. He came back in about an hour with a box of tampons and looking completely crestfallen. Apparantly while he was trying to park, he got in a yelling match with a guy in the lot. The guy cussed at him and his mother. DH lost his cool and kicked the guy's car and put a dent in it. This is SO uncharacteristic of him, even he couldn't believe what he'd done. I don't know if it made him extra macho that he was there to buy tampons or what. Of course the other guy called the cops and complained. It wasn't a serious enough offense, but the police dept he was interviewing with heard and called to say "they were severely disappointed in his conduct". They denied his application just like that, after 1.5 years. After that poor DH completely lost heart and decided not to try out again.
After sitting at home depressed and moping for a few months, I encouraged him to go for a career in computers since he's a natural at it. He listened, got motivated to study and pass some certifications, and within the year got an awesome job in mid-level IT with a starting salary higher than he could ever hope to make in law enforcement. He now works from home four days a week, we're happily married, and I have my man sitting safely at home watching TV with me at nights instead of working a prison or chasing criminals.
Moral of the story? Send your men to buy tampons. It's good for them. (He did however have to pay for the dent in the other guy's car).
Haha yea he totally would. And he does every. time. he sees coupons for them, lol!
@meliss: Haha! Love the story. I hope tonight when he's buying me tampons, he finds a job that allows me to quit my own. Fingers crossed!
FI did this on his own for the first time recently=) i was home, not feeling good & he was going out for something anyway. he even used the coupon i gave him!! if i was a cashier, i would have been impressed=) i showed him on the box where is says 'unscented' before he left so he would check at the store, and there was a picture of the box on the coupon.
You know what? I HATE buying tampons. I don't know why. I always buy at least two or three of the huge boxes so I don't have to buy them often, because I hate doing it. It's so weird. But seriously.
Anyway, I have never asked FH because I need to buy them so rarely. But if he was already at the store for other things, I'm sure he wouldn't have a problem picking some up for me.
He's sitting right here and he said "Sure, but you'd have to give me explicit instructions on what to buy and I'd also need to buy steak and beer."
Mine won't!!! I've asked him to pick me up a box from Costco when he's there and he won't.
I think if I REALLY needed him to... he probably would but he wouldnt be happy about it lol.
@meliss: That's fabulous! Who says periods aren't good for something, right?!
He'd probably be willing to pick them up for me if they were part of the regular shopping and I was very specific about what I wanted. However, I've never really asked him. I work right beside a drug store, so there's not many reasons I'd need him to do it.
@Lames: That's the best thing so far. How funny if you were a cashier and those were the 3 things that came down the belt LOL
He actually bought me some the other day while he was grocery shopping & I didn't even ask! thats love!
My bf has every time and he's proud of it! lol, he says he thinks of it as he takes care of his girl, and would walk through the store with the box held high to say 'I have a gf and I love her. ' lol makes me wonder if he actually does hold the box high.
Melissa-that is the most awesome, random tampon story! I guess everything happens for a reason :) Well, this post is timely because my husband just refused to go get me some the other day. He would have done it if I really, really needed him to but it would have taken some serious pleading. He's incredibly self-conscious and worries a lot what total strangers think which I find really funny. Also, he's 52 so younger guys are probably more chill about buying stuff like Vagisil or Tampax :)
I just asked him if he would and he said yes :) I don't need them right now but I had to make sure!
My FI will buy them. Once I sent him out to get them but before he left he took a picture of my the empty box with his phone so he got the right kind! I needed midol too and he also thought to get me chocolate while he was out...what a guy! Haha
Oh yes, and he has several times.
Funny story - once when I was sick with the flu, I sent him to the store for soup, Sprite, and gossip magazines. When he left the store, he called me and said he would NEVER buy another gossip magazine. I laughed, and told him it was no worse than buying tampons, and he said "it is much worse than buying tampons! At least they know those aren't for me!"
