Hi all, this is my first post and I need some serious advice. I am getting married in october 2012 and I have totally fallen in love with this Maggie Sottero dress (Isadora Marie) that I keep seeing in magazines and online
I think its GORGEOUS but the problem is that Im a size 22-24 (UK) and so am finding it really hard to find ANY dresses to try on properly, let alone this one. I HAVE been to several shops and they have been very helpful and I have been lucky enough to try on lots, some of which I have “really liked” but nothing where I have cried and gone “its the one!”.. Everyone keeps telling me I will just “know” when I find the one and so far I havent felt that way.. I have been on the maggie sottero website and got the list of stockists for this dress and emailed EVERY single store asking if they have this one.. Only 3 have replied saying yes, 2 of which are in a UK size 8, and one of which is in a UK size 14, neither of which I will fit into in any way shape or form. I then re-emailed all the stores asking if any of them would be prepared to order me in a sample dress in my size but all of them came back to me saying that the standard sample size dresses that Maggie Sottero sends out are a size 8! And apparently the ONLY way I can order this dress in, is if I were to actually buy it in my size and then HOPE that it looks nice..
My problem is that even though I have tried other dresses on (about 15-20 in total), none of them I have liked as much as this one and all I can keep thinking about is “the skirt isnt as nice as the Maggie Sottero one,” or “the lace is not the same as the maggie sottero one”.. its driving me MENTAL. I have even been and tried on several dresses that I didnt like as much but did have the same sillouhette as the Maggie Sottero one, just to see if the shape suits me and it does (see links below for the similar shaped dresses)
And now all I can think is that Im ALWAYS going to be thinking about this dress until I can physically put it on so maybe I should just order it and be done with it? I am going to see the dress next week (the size 14 one) but I will only be able to look at it, not try it on.
What are you thoughts? Am I crazy? Do you think it would suit someone my size? Could I sell it do you think if I don’t like it?

No, you are not crazy. I am doing the same thing. I couldnt try on my favorite dress (in my country), so I just order it 😀

If you have tired on the shape and you like the shape then I say go for it!

I’m a size 18 and LOVE the Isadora Marie and am considering ordering it without trying to too, although I have a bit of time up my sleeve – if you do get it I’d love to see a pic!! 🙂

If you’ve tried on dresses in a similar shape, I think you should be fine. And if you don’t like it as much as you had hoped, there are websites online you can sell it someone through. But hopefully you’ll love it as much as you imagined!

If you would like, I would love to help you by photoshopping the dress onto you digitally so that you can picture what you will look like in the dress. You can PM me and I will give you my email address. I do not charge, I just love weddings and I am a big girl that got frustrated with not findind sizes I could try on.

Thank you all for the good advice.. I went today to the Wimbledon Store where the size 14 dress is and even just LOOKING at it, I knew it was the one. the fabric was gorgeous and the cut was amazing, the embellishments were beautiful. Then the shop assistant suggested I TRY to get it on and somehow, magically, she managed to get it on me! She used a panel to make it fit, but I guess because the skirt is made of layers of gathered tulle, there was a lot of room in the skirt so I was able to get a brilliant idea of what it will look like and it was GORGEOUS! So I ordered it there and then! WOOOOO!!!! Here are some piccies I took of the dress close up (didnt get any of me in it, but it looked nice)

Honestly… I would not order a dress without trying it on. I took in pictures of dresses I loved and loved and loved. once i tried it on… not so much…
I ended up falling in love with a dress I would have never thought would look good on me until i tried it on!

I wouldn’t either–I actually just rec’d my Maid/Matron of Honor dress for my best friends wedding, nobody got to try theirs on, and we all ordered based on measurements…nobody’s dress fits and they are all going to require significant alterations–mine is actually going to require a corset back to be put in, instead of the zipper that is there now. I would advise against this unless you are getting the dress in time to order a new one if it comes in and doesn’t fit

I ordered one without seeing it. It fit like a glove.
@marylandnurse: that sounds like a measuring or reporting problem.

This is what I would do:
Try on a dress in the same cut – make sure you like the natural waist ball gown
Then go into a store which carries the dress and look at it. Make sure you like the lace and the netting it’s on and the flowers etc… It looks a bit different in person than it does in the pictures.
If you are satisfied with both of those options then I say order it!! 🙂

I won’t waste my money to get a dress from online shop that doesn’t suit me when i try it on. And I think it wastes my time to get refund or replacement. My suggestion for you is try on some dresses in local store and then find similar ones online if you still wanna online dress. Good luck

Hey Becky, am glad to hear it went well! Can’t wait to see a pic of it on when you get it 🙂

@Beckybunny: has it come in yet?
