Do you have a picture of your dress? I'm thinking in any case you could wear the dupatta as a shawl (provided it's wide enough), around the shoulders. The only problem I see with wearing it as as a typical dupatta is that it might obscure the neckline and/or any jewelry you are wearing.
I can totally picture that, I think it would look beautiful! And if your necklace was longer, it would dip under the dupatta and show (one with a large pendant could be really stunning). Is the gown strapless?
I don't think it would be strange... I almost did the opposite (with a pale mint green lengha and a western veil) ;). I think if the match is good it would look great!

Thats the dress. This is the ivory color though. The dress I'm getting is in antique gold and the tailor at the bridal shop is redesigning the top a little so I can have cap sleeves. I figure that if I use a net dupatta or a light chiffon dupatta it'll be sheer enough that it doesn't totally cover any embellishments on the top of the dress. I was thinking maybe one that looks like the dupatta in the second outfit on this page

Yeah I think it would look really nice. Hopefully I'll be able to find the matching dupatta (keep your fingers crossed for me haha).
I think it will look great! If I were you, I would totally rock some light gold bangles to complete the look :)
Yes - that would look very odd. I saw a girl featured on SMP with an orange dupputa on a white dress and she looked ridiculous. Stick to one style, be elegant and embrace it. Or wear a veil.
@mechiebaby, I think bangles would definitely help complete the look!
@Aarti, A white dress and an orange dupatta I'm sure would look pretty bad. I'm not wearing a white dress. My dress is gold with ivory detailing and the dupatta would match the color and detailing in the dress.
So I was just strolling the internet and I found this

I actually like it! I mean it's not exactly what I'm going for and I'm def not brave enough to do anything that contrasty but I think it totally works for their wedding!
OK, I just had to chime in and say that the images in the last link you posted are to die for! If my fiance and I were doing a fusion wedding, I would totally rock that look. As it is, we are doing two separate ceremonies with separate dress for each (I am Catholic and he is Hindhu). I say "go for it!"
OMGosh I absolutely love those pictures as well! They just pulled everything off so beautifully and the bride looks amazing. I'm not sure if I'm that brave to do such a contrasty look but I adore it. I hope my look comes out even half as amazing as that lol
what a beautiful wedding! Thank you for sharing that site :)
PS I saw this and immediately thought of this thread... is that creepy or what?! I'm such a weddingbee stalker :)
mechiebaby, I adore mantilla veils! That will definitely be an option if the dupatta thing doesn't work out!

...to wear a Dupatta and an "American" style wedding dress. The dress I have picked out is antique gold and ivory with embroidery on the top and along the bottom of the dress and train. The design and applique of the dress kind of reminded me of a more toned down, Westernized lengha. To tie it into my Indian fusion wedding I am thinking of getting a nice gold or ivory net dupatta with a lightly embroidered design that matches the dress (if I can find it). Would that look strange? I think it might be a nice blend of both cultures and my fiance is planning on wearing a sherwani for both days of the wedding so I want to make sure we coordinate. I'm looking for some pictures that might help to visualize my idea...
