Dad and I do not have the same taste in music and we do not have that mushy father/daughter relationship. It's a good relationship, just not sappy sweet. Trying to think of songs we sang growing up in the car or watching a movie.

Puff the Magic Dragon is one (which I still love) or Edelweiss is the other. Would they make for weird father/daughter song choices?

I don't know what Edelweiss is, but honestly.. if I heard that song being played for a father/daughter dance I would think it was kind of weird.. but like I always say, if that what you really want, who cares what anyone else says!  If you decide to use that song you can have the announcer say that this was a song you guys sang together while growing up, then people would get it more.  Good luck!

Go for it! If they have personal meaning for you and your dad, either will be perfect! I had to look up Edelweiss, do you know what it means in German? It's a really pretty song! Puff is also super cute, my mom used to sing that to me as a kid.

Of the two,I think Edelweiss would be easier to dance to and you should absolutely pick one that has meaning to you both! I love the idea. My daughter's F/D song is by Pure Prairie League ,'Fallin' in & out of Love'...they used to belt it out in the car too for as long as I can remember!

Ok, thanks so much. Edelweiss is one one of the main songs from The Sound of Music. It describes the white flower of the country.  It's actually used a lot in wedding but in processionals. I love Puff but it speaks more of a boy growing up...little Jackie Paper...unsure if that makes a difference. I'll keep workign on it. Thanks bunches!

If you can dance to either one of them, go for it!  I danced to "Dead Skunk" by Louden Wainwright II with my dad.  I'm sure lots of people thought it was weird, but it was also fun, memorable, and exactly what I wanted.  I definitely wanted to avoid anything that was overly saccharine...

I think that whatever song you feel works best for you is appropriate.  In this case, I think either of these songs would work out.

Elelweiss is SOOOOO gorgeous! I think that would be a lovely song for your first dance. I can't remember what the puff song sounds like, but edelweiss might be hard to dance to because it is so slow. This is one of those things that no one can really tell you what is best, its such a personal thing. You really have to figure out what you want to say and how you picture it. good luck!

those are both great picks!  edelweiss is sung by the father in sound of music and is about loving one's home(land) and blooming and growing, so it is fairly appropriate. and puff is about the magic of childhood.  both are sweet without being sappy.

Eidleweiss is gorgeous! It doesn't matter if it's not the standard Father/Daughter sappy dance song. Mine is a country song I was named after. Most people won't get it but my family will Laughing
