I've had the same questions!! I think that you should buy things that you like, but if you really want them to be sold, keep that in mind. If its something VERY unique to you and your wedding it may have a harder time being sold.
example: I want to buy silver charges for my tables and i'm comfortable with that since I'm sure I'll be able to resell them. I also want to DIY a yellow damask aisle runner, but not sure that will be as easy! :)
Just buy what you want and then cast a wide net after your wedding (post here, craigslist, etc). As long as you keep in mind that you need to price things competitively when you list them, you should be fine. My rule of thumb when selling things used is generally 50% of retail, give or take depending on condition. If it's something new that was never used, it's cool to price it higher. You will never get what you paid out of things.
@zippylef: oh for sure! I'm not even expecting to get exactly what I paid for stuff. I'm just nervous I won't get anything!

I am thinking about totally overhauling my whole venue w decorations. Before I buy anything, I kind of want to get a feel for if people are actually going to want t purchase it from me after the wedding though. Beucase if not, I kind of don't want to spend SO much money. lol. I don't want to list it as "presale" on classifieds because I haven't bought anything yet. Should I just jump in and buy the stuff and hope people like the same things I do? What do you guys think?
