I don't think it would look right to have a Jr. bridesmaid in anything with a sweetheart neckline, even if it had straps added. Pretty much anything strapless looks like they're being "dressed up" as adults. Maybe something with sleeves or at least wide straps?
On color...I think it depends on the skin tone of the Jr. bridesmaids...
Oh, I absolutely agree. I definitely don't want anything strapless for them. I'm not sure if it will look weird though if they essentially have a completely different dress! (straps, different neck line, different color, different length)
I don't think it would look weird at all! I think you should choose whatever color you're happy with, and I promise no one is going to stop and think, "Oh no they didn't!"
They will look lovely in whatever color you choose.
Good luck!
Just think "What would I wear to a school dance"...
As long as its appropriate for the age of the girls, go with it! I agree with you wanting it to be tea length; those always seem to look best on younger girls.
As long as they are in similar hues I think it would be fine. Tea length is adorable.
Have you thought about taking the girls out on a little shopping trip to see the kinds of things they like to wear? Maybe that will help you decide on their dress style. As far as dress color, what are your wedding colors, or is it just gold?
Our colors are gold and peach/coral.
My sister did suggest taking them to the store and having them pick something out, but my concern is that any dress we pick wont go with the bridesmaids dresses. You can see from the picture above it's hard to find a modification of that dress. I don't see a young girl in a silky dress, so the material would be different, the cut, the length, the style, the straps...
A different friend suggested today to have the two of them wear matching dresses to feel like they are included in the wedding (the peachy/coral color), but have them hand out programs and do the guestbook. She suggested they could even walk down the aisle before the flower girls, but the only difference would be that wouldn't stand up in the front with all the bridesmaids--so essentially they wouldn't be juniors. That would eliminate this dilemma. What do you think about that?
Are you okay with them not being juniors?
For the dresses, you could take them shopping just to see what styles they like, but in the end you find a dress that you think would work. If you don't think the gold color would work on them, then the peach/coral would probably be really pretty. None of these really match, but here are some Jr. BM dresses.
Here's some more dresses. Here's another option for a place you can look.
Have you considered doing custom dresses for the girls? You could do the dress in your accent color but then put a strap of the bridesmaid dress fabric along the bottom of the dress and then again as a sash around their wastes maybe. I made a really rough mock up of my idea in paint on my computer. It looks awful.. I'm not good at paint.. but it should give you an idea of what I mean.
I know a lady that makes dresses and usually customs aren't really any more expensive then what you order in the store. Good luck!
Oh, man! Thanks for trying anyway! I had not thought about that. They key will in finding a way to tie the two together. I never thought this would be so tricky!
Trying one more time with a pic I found online. You could substitute your 2 wedding colors here.
Ok.. it worked.. hooray!
So here is something a little closer to what I was thiking. But really if you do custom the sky is the limit. You could even have the bodice of the jr bm dress rouged to match the body of your bm dresses.
I wouldn't do all of the BM custom though.. This adds a lot of stress. If girls miss thier fittings (which they always do) then things get really tight as far as time goes. If you ordered an extra bm dress your designer could use the fabrid for the details and you know it would match perfectly. Then you just have to pick out the fabric for the body of the dress using your coral/peach accent color.
Good luck :)
Thanks for your suggestions! I think I found one that would go really nice:

At first I was opposed to the girls wearing this type of material, but once I saw it, I think it looks pretty cute. I also think this one might go well because it has that similar patter as the top of my bridesmaids dresses:

Maybe to help the dresses flow and match get the girls a sash that maches the bridesmaids.
I like the look of those last links, sounds like a good option to me :)
Great finds! I like how the second one has all of the extra rouging at top to match your bm dresses. But I love how the first one is a little shorter and more fun looking for a young girl. Maybe you could get the second one and then have them chopped off at the bottom so they are a bit shorter. I think it would make it easier for the kids to play and have fun at the reception if they didn't have super long gown on.
The beauty of weddings today is that you can choose whatever color you want. You don't have to stick to any 'color rule' and make things matchy matchy. I think it's so much better this way instead of in the 'old days' when everything had to match.

I have two junior bridesmaids, and I know that their dresses are supposed to resemble the bridesmaids dresses, but slightly more conservative and appropriate for a 4th and 7th grader.
The color of the dress shown is going to be a creamy gold (the palamino by Dessy), and all of the bridesmaids are going to be pretty tan so it won't wash them out. However, a gold color won't flatter the little girls too well. My question is, what would you think of having the junior bridesmaids wear dresses in the accent color? (a peachy coral) There isnt really a modification of the dress I chose, so they would wear something tea length with straps.
Do you think that would look alright?
If you had jr.s, what did they wear?
