Honestly, I would focus on you.  Focus on your promotion.  Not anyone elses.  Office and work rumors have a way of getting mixed up- you have no idea how true what you overheard was.  Talk to your boss about your progess and what you need to do to be promoted and focus on that.

Definitely do not talk to your boss about it – that sends the wrong message. Just continue to work hard and push for your own promotion, what else can you do right?

(Also. It sucks she may be thinking of the other girl rather than you. If anyone deserves a promotion, it is definitely you by the sounds of it!)

@SweetRose2011: When was the last time you talked to your boss about being promoted?

I voted “Other”. You should never talk to your boss about your co-worker’s status’. That may even be illegal in the work place (confidentiality reasons) but idk on that?

If you talk to your boss about your co-worker, its not going to look good. I’m an office manager & if one of my employees came to me asking about another employee’s promotion/status, it wouldn’t look good. What would be ok is if the employee came to me asking about their own promotion/status. Then again, putting off a meeting for 2 months may mean she’s avoiding it or maybe is just busy?

You should only ask your boss about your position. It sounds like you had a weakness or didn’t know about an area (since you said you had to take a class) & you’re trying to improve, so I would study extra hard whatever that is about/ research online/ etc. I bet you’re doing your best but maybe this is the one area holding you back?

It may be hard on your boss, she may really like you & know you work hard but maybe the other girl is better at whatever the promotion is. Or it could be just rumors that she was going to get promoted. I really hope you get it & that your boss quits putting off the meeting. It sounds like you definately deserve it!

Just read that you talked to her about it in January. I think you should give it a few days to ask about your class since she just got back from vacation & maybe try to schedule a meeting for the end of this week or early next week?

Ok well if its supposed to be like a family business & she’s told you before & is being honest than it could be she just can’t decide who to promote? It could be she doesn’t see the position opening up til August so she’s not in a hurry to promote someone? She probably thinks she has 3 or 4 months to handle everything. Or it could be she was really busy & has not meant to avoid you, just things kept coming up.

I was completely off about the class, if everyone has to take it, then its not that big of a concern. I would still try to do extra research, if that would help you?

Did they tell you why you didn’t get promoted last time?
