here is our menu - keep in mind we dont have vegetarians or people with pork restrictions for religious reasons at our wedding:

Fresh Herb Crusted Beef Tenderloin Medallions with of a Demi- Glace served with julienne squah & zucchini with french green beans tossed in garlic herb butter, piped garlic whipped mashed potatoes & fresh baked rolls

Dijon Rubbed Pork Loin with Calvados Demi-glace served with complimenting fresh seasonal vegetable, starch, & fresh baked rolls

so pork and beef for options. i was gonna get a beef and chicken option but the chicken i did NOT like. so i went with one red meat and one white meat...

bearing in mind that we dont have to worry about vegetarians/vegan or people who cant eat pork - does it sound good?

I would be fine with the beef option but it'd be the only option I'd choose, I would be upset with the lack of chicken which is what I eat on a more regular basis. (very slowly becoming a non-red meat eater)

I'm not real big on pork.  Granted this is just one opinion and I don't know your guests feelings on pork, chicken just seems to be safer.

yeah i would have liked to have chicken but its this really nasty airline chicken thats VERY salty and i think unedible. they dont have liek a simple plain chicken breast or something.

I'm sure you could ask for a plain chicken or a different kind of sauce. We had the suace on our pork option changed 3 times

It sounds good to me and I would choose the beef.

Here is my one concern: you note that you won't have any vegetarians in attendance, but what about those who don't eat red meat? I know that there was that whole "Pork: The other white meat" campaign, but pork is technically red meat, so your options may be limiting to those who don't consume red meat. Just a thought :)

I honestly just don't eat beef or pork so to be honest I'd be kinda bummed if those were my only options. I'd try to look into seeing if they can change anything about the chicken so that you could have that option. I just know quite a few people who don't like pork and who don't want red meat...so I'd be concerned about those people. But obviously you know your guests best and they both sound like really good options if I ate red meat lol :)

you had me at "herb-crusted beef tenderloin". I think pork and beef are good options if you don't have to worry about vegetarians. Most people like one or the other.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I don't really like beef or pork. If those were my only options, I'd probably pick at the side dishes and wish for a chicken, fish or turkey option. Is there a pasta option that's available - maybe as a "vegetarian" option for those who don't like beef or pork?

I agree with Goldilocks... is there any way you could add a veggie option? I don't eat beef or pork so I'd be a bit bummed. That being said, if I saw those as my options on your menu I'd eat before I came and just nibble on some side dishes.

I think it sounds fine (of course I am a vegetarian) to me, they are pretty popular dishes.  I just hope you don't have anyone with any health restrictions.  Beef and pork might not work for someone with say, a cholesterol problem.  I'd at least consider chicken, just in case.

I don't eat beef or pork either, but I am a bird and seafood eater! Usually if there isn't anything on the menu I would like though, I just get more veggies and cake (if it is available). I think it will be fine.

They both sound good to me, but I think the main problem you'll face is that people that don't eat beef usually won't eat pork either. I think you'd be safer with a vegetarian option (even if people aren't actually strict vegetarians) or explaining your concerns about the chicken to the caterer to see if there is anything they can do, like make a different sauce.

I know a lot of people that avoid pork just for health reasons and try to limit their red meat intake.  For that reason I would suggest trying to have a fish or chicken on the menu.  If thats not possible make sure there are lots of veggies or a big salad.

I voted that they seem like good options. I am a veg, so I wouldn't really know, but they sound like they are good. Especially since you didn't like the chicken option!

I personally would choose the beef (it really sounds yummy), because I don't like pork. But I know a lot of people, who don't like both beef and pork. I think chicken would be something most people would eat...

I very, very rarely eat beef or pork. I am a poultry, fish, or vegetarian person. Here I would order the pork and be a tiny smidge bummed, but it really isn't a big deal. The food looks nice. If you have anyone call you with a problem, just offer to make a plate with extra portions of the veggie and mashed potatoes. They sound great.

thanks for all the responses ladies :) i can try and talk to chef into changing the chicken - but hes kind of a primadonna and doesnt like to change his recipes, and i wont get to taste the changes (he only does one tasting) so i  have no way of knowing if it will be edible come wedding.

seriously it was a salt lick - i could feel my blood pressure rising.

we are also staying away from fish because majority of my family is allergic to seafood - like epi-pen allergic, so most wouldnt eat that and wouldnt want their food anywhere near it for fear of cross contamination.

not really worried about the not eating meat group since everyone we know both family and friends are meat eaters - including red meat.

it sounds like the folks who eat meat are happy with the choices and no one is grossed out - im surprised, i thought more people would like the pork than the beef but i guess "fresh herb crusted" is wayyyy too enticing LOL

good idea monitajb - i can always just have them leave off the beef or pork on that plate i guess (like if someone's date complains or something)

and we also have appetizers too:

Display of International Cheeses - Cubes and Wedges of Such Fine Imported Specialties as: Havarti, Fontina, Gouda, Boursin, Baby Brie & Gouda Mini French Baguettes & Crackers
    Fresh Strawberries & Melon
Display of Sliced Fruit - Slices of Honeydew, Cantaloupe & Pineapple with Grapes &
    Strawberries
Vegetable Antipasto - Celery, Carrots, Tomatoes, Grilled Zucchini & Squash with Olives & Red Peppers
Mojo Beef Speidies – House Marinated Beef & Vegetable on Bamboo
    Bacon Wrapped Scallops
Spanikopita- spinach & feta cheese wrapped in phyllo

as well as salad and bread of course, and the cakes (main and grooms)

If you know that everyone you are inviting eats meat I wouldn't change it.  I think a lot of people know that in their group many people don't.  In your case the options sound great especially the beef.

If you know that everyone in your group will eat beef or pork, go for it.  I'm a beef lover and I would love that beef dish!  I never get chicken at weddings.

But if you don't know that everyone is a beef and pork lover, you need a chicken or at least a pasta option.

Out of all of our guests, only one is a vegetarian.  But I wouldn't offer only beef and pork b/c I know a lot of people that strongly prefer chicken.

we know 99% of the people coming - only about 2-3 people have a "plus one" so those are our unknowns. (and frankly i dont want to change the menu for just 2-3 people out of 120 - i know it sounds bad but i dont know those people and im not baseing my entire menu on what they MAY or may not like....)

so i will stick with what i know :)

I think you are right. Tailoring your menu to your actual guests is the best approach. And as I mentioned, the food looks very good, so you are in great shape. Even your sides sound awesome, I can't imagine that you'll get more than one or two people raising an issue.

I may be in the minority but I don't consider pork to be 'white meat' in the same way chicken is white meat. It has a beefy texture!

I would add a veggie option if I were you - even non vegetarians might want to pick a less meaty entree. I agree with other posters though - keep guests in mind, but it's only one meal - your guests won't starve if one or two don't like your choices. Personally, i'd eat either of those meals!

I would have worked it out to create another chicken option - most people, even without religious upbringing, might not like pork and having only beef as the other option, you may have some unhappy diners.  But at the end of the day, it's your wedding...
