Absolutely! I'm with beekiss2--if the price was right! I was actually looking at preowned dresses during my dress search.
@lillikins611:I would not but I may be the minority. If you have various styles, well known designers and low prices.....sounds like a good business venture to me! Good luck.
I just ordered my brand new gown yesterday (!!!!), but I tried to buy it used. I called a couple consignment shops in the area to see if they had the one I wanted. If they had, I would have bought it from them. I could have just bought it off Ebay, but I was too nervous to buy it sight unseen.
ok, i'm having a VERY simple wedding, and it's really cheap. i'm not having any bridal showers, we were never registered anywhere, we're not asking for gifts. we're having a small wedding. i didn't even have an engagment me, but to ME (can't speak for anyone else) the dress was the one thing i wanted for ME. i wanted my own, new dress. maybe i'm bad for feeling that way, but to me it was the one thing i had to have, the one thing that's important to me. so, no, i wouldn't buy a pre-owned dress personally, but i'm sure a lot of women would.
I would. Why not? I mean worn for one full day plus several hours for fittings, if they are cleaned and not damaged, sure.
i definitely would, not all of us can afford our dream dress, once the price is right and the dress is in good condition i dont see what would stop me:)
absolutely! I looked for mine pre-owned, but didn't find too much of a price difference :(
I totally would! I looked at several before I bought the one I have now. And I'm planning to sell it afterward so I hope other people feel the same, lol.
I did! :-) I loved it and the price I paid. It was well worth it and I can't see buying a new one now.
I definitely would wear a preowned gown! In fact I'll be looking for one when the time comes to get my dress!
I also looked for a preowned, but could not find the dress I wanted.
hell yea i would!!! i think it's a great idea! if you were able to try the dresses on, rather than just imagining one on ebay or a preowned dress sites, i think a lot more people would be open to wearing preowned styles. good luck!!
I'm also a minority because I would not. I just don't like the fact that it's used. However it seems to be a good business model based on the responses here.
I purchased a preloved dress on this site and it saved me 50%. The fit is really close (1 inch too big on bust and hips) but the length is exact. I would certainly suggest it to other brides, especially if they can try the dress on in person. I believe there is a store by where I live that does the same thing, but they were all very expensive designer dresses.
I would definitely buy a pre-owned gown. Even if you buy a new dress you will probably have to have it altered. So why not get a dress from someone else and save some money. Besides I don't want my dress to sit in a closet forever.
I wouldn't...one of my wedding day fears was for someone to say, "I saw such & such in the same dress!" This seems more likely in a pre-owned gown. That's MY fear..so to save some $ I went with a china knock off. Some brides are more concerned with wearing a designer label without designer label budget...so in this case I suppose it's a good idea.
I did consider it and went to 2 consignment stores even. I think they are great for the buyer but bad for the seller. All the stores in the area usually sell pre-owned around 50% off (which is normal) but then only give 50% or less to the seller... Once I learned that I had a hard time with the stores. I'd rather buy direct from the seller. I wound up selling my NWT unaltered gown on Preownedweddingdresses.com for a $300 loss. When I looked at consigning it I would have only recouped maybe 40% of the purchase price.
So, I like them, but I also don't... lol.
Mine was preowned by never worn by the bride. She ended up changing her wedding and the dress did not fit into the plans anymore. The dress was originally $700 on J Crew and I bought it from her for $350 with tags. Since we eloped, it was more economical with a respected brand name. I was happy about it.
Will you carry plus sizes? i think that would be a big market... I have been trolling bravo bride/preowned dresses/craigs lists/thrift stores and I think there is a marketing for grabbing whatever plus size dresses you see and having them stocked.
I went to two consignement stores- they both had both consignment and new dresses. A lot of their consignment stuff came from other bridal stores so they were old samples.
I ended up ordering a new dress from the 2nd store.
Absolutely! I bought my dress used and saved 50%. It is in great condition and I don't regret getting something used once for my big day.
Of course! The dress has been worn for like 8 hours. That's hardly used! It's way less wear than samples see!
I did buy a perowned gown and I am head over heels in love with it. I agree with everyone else, as long as the price is right and it's in good condition there should be no reason not to buy.
At first I was kinda of like 'eww', but since I have been looking at wedding dresses and seeing their price I would deffinately look into it now.
Yep! It's my goal to find one! If I don't, I'll buy a brand new one, but I don't want to do that. I'm very eco-conscious in my day-to-day life, and I want my wedding to be a reflection of that.
@homegirl:Did you think the quality of the dress was good? I'm just wondering because most of the designer gowns we purchase are also made in China, probably in the same plase as your dress.
@retreadbride:yes, I would. In fact I think it is very important. The average woman is a size 14. I am, and I couldn't purchase a sample gown because they were all 10's and 12's. I couldn't squeeze them. So offering plus sized gowns is definitely must!
Absolutely! Wedding dresses ae just gorgeous!! They're only worn for a few hours and then locked away in a closet. It's not fair to the dress! I think that you can get some great deals on pricy gowns that are in perfectly mint condition. Think of it from a tree-hugging perspective too.
I would absolutely buy a used dress! For me, I don't see the point in paying tons of money on a dress to begin with, and I would love it if somewhere had a large selection of used ones!
I think the important thing is to make sure you have a wide selection of sizes to draw in the biggest audience. You don't want to get a reputation for "only" carrying plus-sizes, or "only" carrying dresses for "tiny" girls. But it sounds like a great business venture! Where would you be located at?

Hello all! I am opening a consignment shop for bridal gowns and accessories and I am wondering how many girls would buy a preowned wedding gown. They will be cleaned and in near perfect condition. Give me your thoughts!
Thanks Ladies!!!
