Kelley Blue Book says $7000 for a Chevy Aveo that is 6 years old and almost 100,000 miles? That seems overpriced to me. I mean…. a brand new one is only $12,000, and you could likely talk them down from that. The 100,000 mile mark is right around the point that nasty car repairs start happening, too….I think i’d rather get a car that is a year or two newer and save myself the $2,000 transmission replacement that is getting ready to happen.

@crayfish: yea, i put in the info on kelly blue book online and it said the expected price at a dealership for this same car is $7660….
i agree with a newer car, but at this point FH and I don’t want to get something thats more than $5000….$6k is pushing it…
my job is 2 mins away from where we live and i commute to class one night a week….just trying to find something reasonable for now…
i do see your point about it being really close to the 100k marker…

I got my little yellow 2001 Ford Focus hatch-back at 119k miles. It’s a manual. I even got it at a junkyard.
I honestly haven’t had any trouble out of it. It’s at 135k now. How well it’s been taken care of makes a difference, too. Bring along someone that’s really good with cars: I know I can tell if something is wrong with a car just by feeling with my feet. That way you will feel more at ease if your knowledgeable friend gives it the okay.
Of course, do what makes you feel the most comfortable. 🙂

No, I don’t think it is a low enough price and those things are very small. If you like small cars than that isn’t an issue, but it would bother me.
