I've seen a lot of people mention this lately, so I'm just curious.

Yes, I really don't like my username.  But I'm not sure I could create another that I would like for the long run (in case I'm around for babies, etc).

I actually really like my username, but I voted yes because I think it is something we SHOULD be able to do and have control over. I wish the powers that be were more receptive to user's concerns and opinions on this kind of matter (ie can't change your username; can't edit a post after an hour)

Before I found the message boards, I was reading the blogs.  In the blogsphere, a lot of people sign their comments with their name and blog...so that became my username on the message board because I was using it to comment on the blogs.

It's waaay too long and there's no need for it on the message board.  I'd love to change it.

I would.  I didn't realize initially that the privacy controls are so lax on WB and that they won't delete your posts when you delete your account, etc. etc further complaints we've all heard before. My username has my real name in it, which I would never do a second time around.

I did change it because I wasn't thinking when I created my first username and it included maiden name.  Yeah, it stinks to lose those counts, but I can get them back ;-)

I might be alone in this but I don't think it's a good idea. I would keep my name because posters know me by this name. I've been on these boards for a while now and look for certain posters. If everyone went around changing their usernames all the time I would never be able to keep anyone straight!

@TinyTina: I feel the same.  This is an active site with a lot of regular posters, so it's hard enough as it is to keep track of who's who.

@TinyTina: That's another thing that sucks about changing it! I feel like I was just starting to get a presence/ people who knew who I was, but my old name was just toooooo revealing.

God yes!  I hate my username.  It sucks pretty bad, but not to the degree that I would change it now, but if I could keep my post count, I would change it in a New York Minute. lol

I like my username now. Idk about after im not a bride anymore.. I would never change it bc of a post count loss but If it would transfer over then I would consider it after I get married.

I really, really wish I would have changed my name a long time ago, but I don't think I would now. As Tina said, we know who people are by their name, so I wouldn't want to create a new identity with the people who know me...

I'm with @AnnieAAA - this is the username I've used for years, and I definitely feel I've grown out of it. It would be nice to use a name that matches my blog and my username on other sites to kinda fit my "brand" better, ya know?

In a heartbeat. When I chose my username I thought I was going to ask a few questions and never come back to this site but obviously that didn't happen. My username is my first and middle name so it's VERY recognizable to those who know me IRL. Considering I've done my fair share of bitching on here, I'd love it if all of those posts could no longer be linked to "CaitMarae" but it is what it is.

In a heartbeat....i used this name and made the account just bc when i googled my venue someone on this site had used it years ago...i have never planned on venting family and very personal issued which are now connected to pictures of me and my name...i would even go as far as deleting my acocunt permananetly so everything goes away

What I would like is the ability to hide our "User Activity" (Recent Replies and Threads Started) in our profiles.  That would make it much harder for somebody we have a real-life connection with to read everything we've ever said about anything on this board.

ETA: I just posted this in "ideas" so if you agree, please vote.

Yes, but only because I'm just "MrsMcK" now, not "FutureMrsMcK". I'd have thought harder about a username if I realized I'd be hanging around after I got married.

I would absolutely change mine!  Now that I've stuck around a long time after actually getting married (and have no intentions of leaving anytime soon), being "Future" just doesn't make sense.  But I'm not giving up my post count!

    @Mrs Sarah McK: Exactly! :)

@TinyTina: I don't think people should be able to change them all the time, willy-nilly because I agree, we identify each other by our user names and it would get confusing.  But I don't think a 1 time allowance or something is unreasonable (so that when people realize the privacy issues or get married or something, they can change it to something more appropriate).

There is actually a thread in the IDEA section about this. I think it would be great if they limited it to a certain amount of times in a time period and then linked your previous name to your profile.

I want to be able to change into Mrs. Tattoo after the wedding without losing my post count. I'm sure a lot of the Soontobe's would like to change too.

Yup. Like a few PPs I didn't think I would end up participating in so many discussions on this site, and since I was already using this username for a few non-wedding-related sites as well, I wish I'd chosen something different to keep my profile on the Bee separate from all that other stuff.

No, this is my 2nd username so I already have what I want. I had my first username for about 9 months but then I didnt like it anymore so I changed it. My post count at the time was around 2000-3000. I prefer the new username over the old post count.

I think that you should be able to change once at least, especially once you get a hang of the boards.  The only issue with changing names alot is you really never get to know people.  Over the span of time that I have been on the boards I have gotten to know some people really well or at least their board personalities.  I know that there are some that I look for their post because they crack me up, some I want to see how something turned out, or go back and see their wedding recaps if they changed their names all the time I would never know who to look for.

i dont want to change my name because i really like how i came up with it.... but like tons of other bees, i would LOVE to be able to delete stuff after 1 hour!!  i actually used to have a different username before i fully knew how this site worked and posted something WAY too personal. AND it was a name that people IRL could guess was me as it was based off an old email address.  so when the mods wouldnt delete what i wanted, i had to start over.....but i like this name better and have since tried to be careful with what i say.  its hard sometimes though, you get so used to being in this annonomous community and get to know people on here that you forget the whole world can google and read everything too. even if they dont post!   plus i like putting my pictures up.

so i dont think i will ever change my username, but one day i might just remove ALL my photos to get back some level of privacy in cyberworld.
