As you know, I lost my rings. Long story short, I replaced my ering. I had it appraised last week, and it matched the GIA report exactly. I really love it, but in the back of my head…I’m thinking I could have sacrificed some specs to get a stone closer to the carat weight I had before.
So, my question is, would you go 2 color grades and 3 clarity grades down for a stone that is .35 bigger?
current oval specs: .94, internally flawless, G color
oval I’m considering: 1.3, vs1, I color
i know everyone has a personal preference on color. I can deal with a slight amount of warmth, but honestly, I’ve been loving the coolness of this G. Thoughts? Please!

@Heidibrooke: I personally, would not. VS1 is fine with me, but not I color. and only to go from .94 to 1.3. Eh, I’d stick with what you already have.

I’d drop down in clarity to VS1 – IF seems a bit unnecessary. I wouldn’t drop down to I colour though as I also love the coolness of colourless or near colourless diamonds. Can you find something with similar specs but a bit better colour?

I would. I have an H and I love it! I’d rather have it a little bigger.

@Heidibrooke: No, not at all, especially in an oval. The larger the stone, the more apparent warmth and inclusions are. Ovals can show color and inclusions even more because of the larger face. I absolutely would not trade my oval for a bigger one with lower quality.

One more thing…Your ring is absolutely gorgeous! Part of me just wants to shake you and tell you to be happy with it. I mean this in the nicest possible way

@Heidibrooke: Yup! IF isn’t really necessary, and I have seen some VERY white Is. There’s a HUGE size difference between a .9 and a 1.3! That’s just me, though 🙂
ETA: I really DO love your oval though, and think it actually looks a lot bigger than a .9 on your hand!

I would not. I think what you have sounds wonderful and I wouldn’t change it.

No way! Plus, I’ve seen your stone and it’s beautiful and a good size on your finger.

I would, yea. I don’t think I’ve ever noticed color or clarity (or at least not that I was aware of) in a diamond.

Yes. VS1 is perfectly fine and eye clean…there’s really no need for IF IMO.
I like some warmth so I would definitely be fine with an H, and probably be fine with an I. As long as I liked it in person.
The only thing I wouldn’t go down in is the cut.
If you like colorless though, you might look for a VS1 or VS2 that is G colored.

I wouldn’t. I sacrificed size for clarity, and it was the best decision I made, but it was also personal preference.

@foz: thank you! I truly don’t want to come across as ungrateful! I really like my ring. I just know that I have no plans of ever upgrading, and I only have 30 days left until it’s a done deal forever, lol. I just want the best deal for the money. :). Thanks again!!
