My sister and our first cousin have the same middle name named after the same person and they are very close in age, its not weird at all. My sister had a baby and my cousin did at the same time and guess what? Babies have the same middle name! haha I guess our family likes that but since its family names/mean something no one thinks its odd at all.

MRS-K:  I say go for it. It’s a middle name, so it isn’t like people will be using it frequently, and like you said, it might be a neat family tradition.

I don’t see a problem with it. Both of my nephews have the same middle name.  I thought of using the same middle name when my dh & I if/have a boy.

I don’t think it would be weird. I have the same name as one of my first cousins and it has never been a big deal.

MRS-K:  Yep I would except the middle name is actually my nieces first name. That name was also my grandmothers name so yes I would if we have a another child and that child is a girl

I don’t think I would on purpose unless I just absolutely loved it & there weren’t any other options. But, it’s just a middle name.  As an adult, paperwork doesn’t even care what your middle name is lol…they only ask for your middle initial!  I actually realized that a couple months ago.

I don’t think I would give it a second thought. Like you said, it’s not the first name!

I was pregnant with my son the same time my first cousin was pregnant.  Our grandfather, whose middle name was Andrew, died when I was almost 5 months along–cousin was around 3 months.  We both named our sons Andrew.  I call mine Andy, she calls hers Drew.

As for the “just middle name” argument goes, I actually go by my middle name.  Don’t know why my parents did that to me.

All the male first cousins in my family have the same middle name, my grandfather’s name.  Most of my first cousins sons all have that same middle name.  it’s no big deal.  In fact two have the same first names and same middle names, one goes by first name and one goes by his middle name.

Not a problem. The only reason for cousins not to have the same first name is to avoid confusion, and there’s no way to be confused when it’s just a middle name they share.

MRS-K:  It depends. My kids go by their middle names, so it would depend on if the family member did too. It would also depend on the why the name that was chosen. My cousin passed away in a car crash when I was 16 and several of the children born in our generation have his middle name.

ETA: My oldest cousin on my mom’s side middle name is Marie, so is mine her oldest daughter. Soooo…..

My cousin has the same middle name as me.  Im Emily Grace and shes Constance Grace.  Im ten years older but she actually goes by Grace.  I never though it was weird.  I feel like were in the same club or something because we have the same middle name.
