My friend is getting married at the Lake of the Ozarks!! She hasn’t had too much trouble though because the place she is using is very helpful. Her florist is from St. Louis though and just going to travel. I say go for it! If most of you guests are from the area I can *almost* guarantee everyone is familiar with the drive. I mean its the lake!

Three hours isn’t that bad at all.  Your guests can get hotel rooms and make a night out of it!

What a great place for a wedding!  A three hour drive would put it in the  “destination wedding” category for me….I’d absolutely go if you were a close friend or a family member.  I probably wouldn’t go if you were more of a casual acquaintance (like a coworker).

Just be sensitive to the fact that your guests (and wedding party) are going to have the extra expense of a hotel room.  It’s not a big deal, but it’s nice to keep in mind (guests may spend a little less on your gift since they have to travel, and when you consider what the wedding party is having to pay for, be sure to include hotel and travel costs in your calculations).

Would your guests be OK affording a hotel room there for a night?  If so, DEFINITELY go for it!  I think a three hour drive is close enough that it’s not a huge hardship and far enough that it gets people into a weekend/vacation mindset and it’s a lot more fun than just stopping by for a few hours for the ceremony and reception.  (also at least 75% of the weddings I’ve been to have required more travel than that – crazy spread out friends and families!)

I think 3 hours is doable.  Like a PP has said, I would definitely do it for a close friend. Just be aware that some people might not want to spring for the hotel room, and will leave early to get a jump on the drive home.  I’m sure you’ll have some hardcores that really want to make a night of it though ๐Ÿ™‚
