No I wouldn’t, but I can easily imagine an older person in Australia thinking it’s ok.

Oh and my late grandmother enjoyed a good drink, and was quite at home chatting to our friends, who she’d never met, at our 21st’s when she was in her 70s.

I would never invite myself to a neighbor’s party.

However, it’s a little confusing with the letter. The woman may have taken that as an announcement of your party which made it ok for her to invite herself.

@Brickette:  don’t stress, she sounds fun and if anything might add a little entertainment especially considering SO cracked up laughing when you told him.

@Goofball:  I am with you, I reckon she may be good value.  If she shows up and is a nutjob just ask her to leave.  By her saying she is new to the area you will probably find she is just lonely and wants to make some new friends.

I would never invite myself anywhere. That goes against the concept of an invitation. My sister invites herself to my house all the time but I’m accustomed to her rudeness 😛

@Brickette:  Don’t forget to update after the party!!!!

In my opinion, the letter was too detailed so could be confusing. I’ve done this before and left just a note saying “We are having a NYE/Superbowl/Whatever party on the 12/1. We will try to keep the noise down but if it is disturbing you please call us at 555-555-5555 to let us know!”

At first I was wondering if the note could have been misconstrued as an invitation, but that note is very clear. That is an odd situation.
