hahaha that’s so funny that it’s purposely out of focus. As I was scrolling, I thought “wow those are some awful pictures! I can’s see any detail!” Now I know why. I think it’s cute that he’s torturing you. 😉

I happened to know what mine looked like, but unintentionally. We had already looked at rings together and he got the one I loved without me knowing. So while, I was completely surprised, I technically had seen mine before he proposed.

.elle:  I agree with your friends. I will get flamed for this but its my honest opinion – I don’t know how some women can be really surprised when they have shopped for the ring together, designed, etc. You know the proposal is going to happen, its just a matter of when. When it happens, you are still surprised but I feel like the surprise would have been so much better if you didnt know at all.I do understand that some men are not great at picking out jewlery. So I guess if thats the case, then, okay, do you what you have to do to get the ring you want.

For me personally, I could careless what kind of ring he got me. DH didnt drop any hints that he was shopping and designing a ring for me. He had a way of find out what I liked. If we saw someone wearing a ring he would says something like “thats a nice ring” and based on my response he woukd learn what I liked and didnt like. When he proposed it was so out of the blue. It was amazing. The fact that he designed it all on his own meant so much more.

I am not knocking anyone who does shop for a ring with their FIs, thats your business. But since you are asking me my opinion, I am giving it to you. The true element of surprise is gone when you pick out your own ring. Its becomes a waiting game at that point.

I also designed mine too! Were on our way to Hawaii right now and I was expecting a proposal because my ring was suppose to be done a couple of weeks ago. I got an email monday saying it hadn’t even been started yet!! I was still holding out hope he was trying to throw me off so he could surprise me. Lastnight while he was asleep I looked in his wallet where I put his check for him to pay for the ring. It’s gone!! It was there on Monday! So I’m assuming my ring is actually ready! But after I found the check gone I thought about searching his shit to find my ring but I decided I would much rather the first time I see the complete ring I want it to be when he places it on my finger!! Good luck!!

Daizy914:  Agree, it was the same with us. I didn’t even know women picked out their own rings till this site, haha. I thought that was a big No-no. My FI figured it out and designed the ring on his own and I absolutely love it, plus all the effort that he put in to it.

It doesn’t mean if you pick it out you can’t still have that ‘wow’ feeling, but it’s def less of a surprise. If I were you I would want to wait to see the final piece, then you’ll still have a bit of a surprise. But, I’m also someone who LOVES surprises and presents lol. If you don’t care that much, then look at it.

You can still have that ‘awwww’ feeling when you look at it and reflect back to when you created your ring together, that’s something special you’ll always share.

I don’t think at all that it’ll make it less special…the moment of your SO asking you to marry him will make it special all by itself.

    .elle:  Always, hehe.

    Excuse the chipped nails…

It’s not huge and super fancy like some of the rings on here, but it’s perfect to me! I love it.

Maybe he sent you blurry footage so you wouldn’t really be able to see it! I went with my FI to look at rings, but I gave him multiple choice for type of ring and left him to his own devices in picking a stone. I ended up leaning towards one in particular after giving him the multiple choice, but he chose the right one before I even did! It just shows how well we go together.
