ETA: Guys this is not a “trinket.” I understand it’s not your taste, but it is someone’s ARTWORK. Materials are handblown glass made of pyrex. And to reiterate, it is also a piece to display in your home. Unlike a dress that you wear once and probably don’t display in your home 🙂 We’re having an undersea theme. And I want this. God I want it so badly.
Here is the listing:https://www.etsy.com/listing/152303840/frosted-glass-heart-cake-topper-with-two?ref=favs_view_1 Also he sends a lava rock that’s carved so you can display it as a piece of art in your home:

No way would I spend that for a cake topper. It’s definitely pretty but no 🙂

@Chrysoberyl: Absolutely not, you can find another nice one WAY cheaper then $500.

I’m sorry, but you have drunk the cool-aid!!!! That is highway robbery!

It’s cute, but no, I would not spend that kind of money on a cake topper. DH’s ring was less expensive than that.

@Chrysoberyl: I would just have visions of it crashing to the floor when catering takes it out back to cut the cake.

No. You can find something like that for way less.

@Chrysoberyl: It’s lovely, but I wouldn’t even spend $500 on a cake.
There are little nick knack things like that at stores all over the mall, I’m sure you could buy one similar and use it as a topper

@Polygon: Ooooh now THAT’S a horror story that can help turn me away from this.

I think it’s okay if you have another use for it afterwards and will save it in some way. If it is just a throwaway or dust collector then I don’t see the value as much.
Having said that, everyone has different levels of disposable income. While a lot of the people above me said they wouldn’t spend the money (and I don’t think I would either), if you personally can afford it and really want to make the splurge then why not?
